"Hi." He said and kissed me deeply. I was beginning to melt into it then realised what I was doing and pulled away.
"Ben what are you doing?" I demanded.
"Kate I’ve never told you this but I love you. Ever since you started hating me I started loving you more." He was getting excited which I knew was going to make it more difficult to tell him I didn’t love him.
"Ben, I can’t love you. I don’t love you. There was a time when I thought I did love you but you never loved me so I moved on."
He looked hurt.
"But what about tonight? We made love."
"Yes. I was drunk out of my head. Nick was there and it felt right. If Nick hadn’t of been there I wouldn’t of done it. I love Nick. It’s gonna be hard on you but when I loved you, you loved Sarah and I had to watch that."
"But what about when we get back to England. Nick’s not always going to be there. I will always be there."
"Ben no. It was stupid and thoughtless of me to do what I did tonight but it was a mistake. I don’t want to be with you. Please you’ll have to face that."
He began to cry.
"I love you Kate." I took him into my arms.
"What about Sarah, what happened to her?"
"She’s not you."
"Ben you have to move on there nothing I can do now come on we need to get some sleep and you’re totally trashed.
You can sleep on the sofa and me and Nick will sleep on the floor." I tried to smile and push back the tears myself. He kinda nodded and pushed past me to go to the lounge.
Chapter 21
Regrets
"Nick get Scruff will you." I shouted to Nick who was on the deck.
Nick put the last of the luggage into the Jeep and started to untie the dog from the pole.
I checked the bathroom and bedroom one last time before leaving to join Nick on the dock.
"Ready to go?" Nick came up behind me.
"Huh?" I couldn’t think straight.
"We’re leaving are you ready to go?"
"Yeah sorry."
"Kate you’ve been distracted all day what’s wrong?" Nick took my hands in his and I couldn’t help noticing how damn good he looked in his football shirt and jeans. I smiled and thought about telling him but didn’t want to hurt him.
"Nothing just a little tired."
"OK babe you go to the car and I’ll be over there in a min."
I smiled and got in the jeep. I felt so bad for Ben but I just wasn’t attracted to him anymore. He had proven that he wasn’t the boy I thought he was back home and now I had Nick. I was so deep in the that I hadn’t noticed Nick get in the car until I heard the engine roar. I took one last look at the yacht and we were off.
"Stop the car Nick."
"What!" He was shocked.
"I mean it there is something on my mind that I have to tell you and if I don’t then I will regret it and I’m sure it’s for the best ‘cause it always goes wrong in the movies when the girl doesn’t tell the guy what she has on her mind." I was so nervous I was going into blabber mode and had to make myself to stop.
He pulled into a lay-by and looked at me concerned but also in a warm way to make me feel better.
"So what do you have to tell me?"
"Nick Ben loves me. He kissed me last night and……"
"What?!!!" Nick was angry.
"Nick it’s not what you think. I love you and I told him that. He thought that what we did last night was special and that I cared about him which I do but not in that way. I just feel bad for him ‘cause he lost his virginity by a drunken, kinky threesome, with somebody he loved and thought loved him back." I pleaded with him.
"He was a virgin?"
"Yes and we were drunk and what was supposed to be a loving occasion for him was just a bit of sex for us."
He looked down realising the wrong we had done.
"I’m sorry."
"You aren’t the one who should be saying sorry. It’s me and I should be apologising to Ben."
"Kate don’t blame yourself. He should get over it. You got over him. Just leave it for a while. You won’t be seeing him for ages so he’ll of cooled down."
"This has never happened to me before." I started crying. "I was just getting used to having one boy loving me then another one comes along. But I only love one. I love you."
"I love you too." I kissed him.
"Nick hold me." He out his arms me that made me feel as though nothing could get me. When I was in his arms I had no problems and no worries, it was just me and him. I wanted to stay in this moment forever, just close my eyes and never leave his touch.
"Nick what would you do if I had told you that I loved Ben and not you." I looked up and he released me from his arms.
"I don’t know what I’d do without you Kate. You are my world. Everything revolves around you, if you weren’t there I couldn’t perform, couldn’t eat or sleep. Kate baby, promise you’ll never leave me."
"I’ll never leave you Nick." I reached up to his ear. "Never." I whispered.
Chapter 22
Home Again
"Home again." Nick yawned.
"S’pose we’re back to early nights and separate rooms."
"Yup, sorry my Mom’s just strict with these types of things but on but on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll be on the road going to the MTV Awards so you’ll be coming with us."
"The MTV Awards. That’s so cool!" I screamed.
"It also gives us a room well a bunk to ourselves for 2 days and two nights."
"Can’t wait." I ran my tongue over Nick’s lips but stopped as I heard footsteps on the gravel path. We looked up and saw Angel running towards us.
We stepped out of the car.
"Kate I missed you so much. Wow we got a new dog. What’s it called." She flung our arms round my waist and hugged me tightly.
"It’s Scruff. We found him on the streets and I felt sorry for him so I wanted to keep him. You don’t mind do you?"
"No way."
"Kate I missed you so much." Aaron mimicked Angel.
"Shut up." Angel hit Aaron round the head.
"Hey Aaron what happened to you……hair…….?" I trailed off as I remembered the other part of the attack against Aaron was to put blue food colouring into his shampoo.
"Oh." Nick appeared beside me.
"Um sorry about that we, um, kinda forgot we put it there." I explained.
"It’s a good job you went away when you did ‘cause Mom was soooooooo mad." He grinned evilly before leaving to run inside.
"You’re her idol you know. She copies everything you do." Nick whispered as Angel ran inside.
"I just have that effect on children. But Aaron’s an exception."
"He loves ya really. Just won’t admit it."
I grinned and walked inside.
"Kate." Jane ran from around the corner and embraced me in a hug. "How was your stay did you like the yacht?"
"Yeah it was great thank you, the yacht was just lovely but I’m worn out from all the travelling."
"I’m glad you liked it. Nick was stressing about it for ages before you came."
"Oh really." I beamed.
"Hey Kate!" Somebody shouted from the top of the stairs I looked up and BJ came bounding down the stairs. I ran to her and we hugged and squealed excitedly.
"How was it? You’ve got to tell me everything."
"Let me get unpacked first and then I’ll tell you everything."
"Everything like what?" Nick asked curious.
"Nothing." I acted innocent. "What’s the time?"
"10 past 4." BJ told me.
"Do you mind if I phone my Mum and Dad?"
"No course not I’ll just go get the phone you can take it into your room." Nick went off to find the phone and me and BJ exchanged knowing glances.
"You know the code for England right?"
"Yup."
"I’ll bring your case up later."
I nodded and left for my room. I opened the door, walked in and lay on the bed. I dialled the code for England and was just about to phone home when something made me dial 820192 instead. The phone rang and I was half nervous and half excited about ringing Heather.
"Hello."
"Hi is Heather there please?"
"It is Heather."
"Oh my God it’s Kate you sound so different so far away."
"Oh hi how are you? How’s the holiday?"
"K I haven’t got long but I’m seriously having the time of my life and everything I am about to tell you is 100% true and none of it, I repeat none of it goes further than you unless I let it OK?"
"I won’t tell anyone now get on with it girl and tell me."
We were both getting excited.
"K Nick is the sweetest guy I have ever met, he took me to Disney world and he hired a private yacht for us. You remember all those times you would sleep over and we would talk about what we would like to do to Nick and AJ if we met them?"
"Yeah."
"Well I met AJ and I did all those things I said I’d like to do to Nick."
"You didn’t?" her voice turned squeaky.
"All the way girlfriend."
"Kate you’re so bad. So is he good?"
"Good? Best ever but…."
"But what?" She heard the serious tone in my voice and calmed down.
"Well me and Nick threw a party at the yacht with Brian and Brian’s girlfriend Leighanne and well the other day I found out that Ben was staying here and that his Uncle is part of the Backstreet Boy’s managing team."
"You’re kidding."
"Nope. Well I made up with Ben ‘cause we went water skiing with him and his uncle and me and Nick ended up doing it in a bush but that’s another story."
She began to laugh.
"Hey what ya laughing at?"
"In a bush."
"Yeah and he was still great but this is deadly serious and you really can’t tell anyone about this. I’m not even going to tell Sarah about it, maybe Leighann but not Sarah."
"I won’t tell anyone."
"K well me and Nick invited Ben to come to this party and he brought a friend. We all got really drunk and played strip poker."
"K."
"Well Ben ended up being the one who stripped and after that well I was like majored turned on ‘cause I think the alcohol went to my head. It was also really hot so I suggested we go swimming in our underwear in the pool on the yacht."
"You had a pool on the yacht?"
"Yeah and it plays a big part of the holiday. So anyway I get in the pool with Ben, Paul and Nick."
"Wait, wait, wait." She interrupted me. "Where’s Leighanne and Brian? And who’s Paul?"
"Leighann and Bri went into the bedroom and Paul is this American boy Ben knows. Got me."
"Yeah go on."
"So we were in the pool just messing around when Paul gets out ‘cause he’s like really drunk so it’s just me, Ben and Nick. We start to get a little horny and we end up having a threesome."
Silence.
"Heather speak to me please I know it sounds like I’m a real slut but I was drunk.
"You’re right I wouldn’t tell Sarah or Leighanne."
"I was drunk and I feel real bad about it." I started to cry.
"Kate it’s OK I don’t think you’re a slut. If anything I envy you. It’s not every girl that can bed to boys at once."
We laughed a little.
"He’s really upset about it though."
"Who?"
"Ben. He told me he loves me and he thought that I loved him."
"But you don’t right?"
"Right. I love Nick. But getting off the subject, when the MTV Awards are on TV keep your eyes open."
"What for?"
"Me. Backstreet Boys are nominated for 5 awards and will be performing there. They’re all allowed to take one guest and Nick’s taking me isn’t it great." We started squeaking again.
"God you’re so lucky."
"I know, you can tell everybody about that. No do tell everybody about that."
We laughed again.
"K I gotta go now. Miss you."
"Miss you too. See you soon."
"Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up. I looked at the clock in my room quickly. It was half 4. I’d been on 20mins. I quickly rang my Mum and Dad and thought it wise to phone Sarah as well or she’d be in a mard ‘cause I’d phoned Heather and not her.
