"First at b-ball now this. You're killin' me Dani." he told her as she laughed with victory.
"I'm hungry." she complained.
"I kinda figured you would be. Come on." he said as he walked to the door. Like a gentlemen he held the door open for her.
"Where are we going Nick?",she asked in curiosity. Nick just smiled then kept driving. "Here eat this candy bar to hold you over. Its like a twenty minute drive."
Danielle smiled in relief. "Thank god you have this. I wouldn’t have made it."
"I know." he said with a smile. He knew her better than she thought.
She tried not to pay attention to how good he smelt as he reached over to change the radio station. Nick wasn't the only one smelling good. Dani was wearing this ocean breeze bath and body works lotion that was hard to resist. Not to mention they way she looked in that dress. Fourteen years old was far from what she was according to Nick's mind.
"Are we there yet?" she asked in axiety.
"One second, I just have to make a pit stop." he said pulling into a mini mall. "You wait here okay?"
Danielle was excited, but nervous. Why had he dragged her out here? What was he doing now? A few minutes later, Nick came walking back to the car with a large pizza and a bottle of soda.
"Why did you drive so far to get pizza. I mean there are so many…"
"Shhhh." he said while placing his finger on her mouth to stop her from talking. "Trust me okay?" he said then started up the car.
Danielle was speechless for the first time all night. He could tell her to shut up anytime if he did it like that. Now she was dying to know where he was taking her. Nick could tell she was anxious. "Open the window." he said.
Danielle opened the window just as he said. "I can't see anything. Maybe that’s cause we're in the middle of nowhere Nick." she cried. "Hey it smells like ocean."
Nick smiled at her and said, "We did what you love tonight. Now I'm gonna show you what I love."
Dani was in total shock. This was the most exciting night of her life. Just then they pulled into a parking lot and Nick turned the car off.
"Ready?" he asked. "You better bring your jacket. It gets a little nippy out there." he advised. "Wait here."
What was he doing to her. The mystery was exciting, but it made her so anxious. Nick then walked to her side and opened the car door for her. He then held his hand out and helped her out. Nick then opened the trunk and took a small cooler which he then put the soda in. He thought of everything. What a guy. If she could find someone her age to do that, she'd have it made she thought to herself as Nick held the pizza in one had and the cooler in the other.
"Let me help." she asked.
"No, I got it Dani. Just start walking."
There was a full moon out and it shinned over the water. It was the most beautiful thing Dani had ever seen. A gentle breeze would come and go, not to mention the calm serene water that seemed to go on forever. Nick put the pizza down next to the cooler, then ran back to the car to get a blanket.
"You may be seated." he said to her.
"What?" she laughed.
"Just kidding." he laughed.
He had thought of everything. The plates, napkins, and even wine glasses. "Don't worry, they're for the soda." he said with a smile.
They ate and talked and ate for a while until they were full.
"Oh my Nick. That was aewsome pizza." she said laying down holding her stomach.
"Yeah. They're the best around." he added.
"There are so many stars out tonight." Dani said as she lay on the blanket.
Nick leaned back next to her and said, "Yeah, we're lucky we came on a clear night."
Dani raised her right hand to point up at a star when she said, "Hey Nick, is that the big dipper?",she asked.
Nick lifted his hand and placed it in hers and moved her arm over slightly. "No, right…there."
She then glanced over at him in shock as he examined her fingers placing each of his inside hers. Hand in Hand they lowered their arms.
"Hey, you wanna go for a walk Dani?" he asked.
"Sure.",she replied as happy as ever to leave this uncomfortable situation.
Nick began to take off his shoes.
"Oh, we're doin' the barefoot thing? Okay."
"What you think I'm gonna get sand in my shoes?",Nick said.
"You're right.",she agreed. "Okay, lets go."
Side by side the two walked down the shore on the moonlit night.
"So, Nickolas Gene Carter likes the ocean?"
Nick smiled and replied, "More than anything Dani." "So, who else knows this?"
"What do you mean? Oh I know. You want to know who else I took out here huh? Don’t ya?" he teased.
"No…well…yeah I guess I do. I'm a little curious."
Nick looked up at the moon then back at her. "Actually, you're the first believe it or not. Most of the girls I dated were from other countries so you know."
"So, are we on a date?" she asked nervously.
"I don’t know. Are we?"
Danielle didn’t know what to say. What did that comment mean? She was so confused. Then she remembered what happened in the garage last year with him. "No, of course not. We're too different in age. Don’t think I'm the same obsessed little girl I was last year." she told him.
Nick stopped walking. "I know that’s the problem." he said. "I figured we were on a date, I mean I guess I hoped we were on one."
Danielle couldn’t believe what she was hearing. He wanted her. There had to be a mistake.
"I probably don’t deserve to be here with you right now, but I'm having a great time." Nick said sincerely.
"I'm having a good time too, but…I don’t know."
"You were sure last year when you jumped my bones in the garage." he said as he looked into her eyes.
He was right. Maybe she had lost some of her nerve after that. She couldn’t take another regection again, not from him. She cared about him too much for that. "I don’t want to ever, hurt you again. Yeah I made many mistakes in my life, but being here with you is the one right thing I've done. I care about you so much Dani." he said as he gently slipped his hand into hers.
"I care about you too Nick." she said as she put her head on his shoulder.
"It means so much to me that you believe me and trust me. You dont know how much."
"Well you've thought of everything Nick.",she said with a smile.
"Not everything. There is still something I have to do."
"What's that?" she asked in curiosity.
"Something I should have did last year." he said as he placed his hand under her chin. Gently, he drew her near until they were so close they could hear each other's hearts beating. Nick could feel her tremble as he gently kissed her lips. Never in his life had kissing someone been so special. Still kissing, he slide his hands down her neck to her hips so that he held her close. Dani out of reaction, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. This was the best first kiss a girl could have. Passion raged inside him, but he held back because he respected he and wanted her to feel comfortable. He slowly pulled away from her lips and opened his eyes. Niether oen said a thing as they starred into each other's eyes. "What now?" Nick asked.
Danielle grabbed his shirt and pulled him close. "I want you to kiss me again."
He couldn’t refuse this offer so they joined lips again, but this time with more intensity. Wanting to touch her and discover ever inch of her body, Nick remembered how old she was. "Wait Dani, stop." he said pulling away from her kiss.
"What? Is something wrong?" Dani asked.
"No, we need to cool off a little. How about we go back to Bri's and watch a movie?"
Hand in hand they walked up the steps to Brian's apartment. "Do you think they're still up?" Dani asked.
"Don’t think so. Hey before we go in I just wanted to say that I had a lot of fun tonight."
"Me too." she said as Nick caressed her cheek.
"Shhhh, they are probably sleeping." Dani whispered.
Nick then flicked on the light so they could see where they were going. "Brian!" Nick cried as startled as ever.
"Hey Frack, what's up?" "What are you still doing up man?" Nick asked.
"Can I talk to you?"
Nick looked at Danielle. "Hey Dani, go in and watch the previews and I'll be in soon." he said as he handed her the movie and kissed her on the cheek.
Brian smiled at Nick as Dani left. "So, I take it you two are an item now huh?" Brian asked as Nick sat acros from him at the dining room table.
"Oh my god Frick, it was so beautiful. She was so beautiful. It was just a beautiful night." Nick replied with stars in his eyes. "What about you Frack?"
"I don’t know how it went. For the first time in my life, I just don’t know." he said sadly.
"Brian listen to me. Either you are or you arent together." Nick said trying to get information.
"See, you think its that simple, but its not Nick." Nick knew that there was a problem and he needed to know what it was or he couldn't sleep.
"Nick, what are you doing?" Dani whispered as she stood in the doorway with a white tank top on and BSB boxers. "Excuse us Brian." she said as she walked towards them. She knelt down next to Nick and whispered something in his ear and he laughed. "I'm comin', I just need to help my friend here Dani" he told her then kissed her on the mouth briefly.
She then began to kiss his ear and whisper into it.
"You better hurry Nick, I may fall asleep and…"
"Don’t worry, I'll be there soon.",he interupted. He kissed her again and she blew him a kiss as she headed for Howie's room. "What?" Nick asked when he noticed the look on Brian's face.
"You didn’t sleep with her did you?"
"No!",cried Nick.
"Are you planning on it?"
"Maybe."
"Tonight?"
Nick laughed. "You've got to be kiddin' me bro.",he answered. "I'm not that low.We need time to get to know one another."
"I know you wouldn’t. I'm just a little uptight. See, me and Mick got into alittle bit of a fight."
"What, did you tell her she was pretty? That would really do it right there. And opening the care door for her would like start World War III." he laughed.
"See you don’t know her like I do. She has reasons for that stuff, ya know?"
"Yeah, I guess." Nick replied having no clue what Brian meant by that.
Brian hesitated, but he needed to tell his best friend to get it off his chest. "I'm trusting you with this information. She's never been…with anyone before."
"Big deal. You can show her how its done Frick. Ha ha." Nick laughed.
Brian shook his head. "No, you don’t get it man. She has never even been touched by a man. Like as in no boyfriend ever in her life, get me?"
"Well Dani didn’t either until me and…"
"That’s completely different Frack. Dani is only fourteen, shes gonna have her first boyfriend. Mick is eighteen so if she has waited this long to be touched it better damn well be special, understand?" Brian explained.
"You can do it Bri. I know it’s a lot of pressure but you guys were made for each other.",he said as he got up and hugged his friend.
"You think so?",Brian asked with a smile.
Nick looked him in the eye. "Come on Brian, Look at you two together. Isn't it obvious?"
Brian smiled. "Thanks Nick."
"Nite Bri."
