Chapter Ten

Unfortunatley, Mick and Dani couldn’t attend the New Year's Eve party. Michelle claimed that her parents wouldn’t let them, but Brian knew it was because of what happened between Danielle and Nick the other night. Mick gave her phone number at home in L.I. and he promised he'd call and write when he could. "Backstreet Boys! Backstreet Boys! Backstreet boys! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!",the crowd cheered as the Boys appeared on stage with a burst of smoke. They were on Premiere Television in Germany and the fans loved it. Nineteen-Nintey Seven was here and the bsb was on top. This was the final concert in Europe and they would be missed, but they needed to hit the homeland. It was time to conquer the U.S.A. There they would release a new album entitled Backstreet's Back, which they hoped would be a success. A lot had happened with the boys. Some good and some bad, but nothing was gonna stop this party. As Nick, the most popular bsb, began to sing the crowd went absolutely wild, as they always do.

Let’s have a party
Everybody, Everybody
Throw your hands up
Everybody, Everybody
Let's have a party-

Passion and heat filled Germany that night as millions tuned in to watch the boys perform for the last time this year. Howie said it best when he said, "Thanks for making 1996 a great year for all the Backstreet Boys! You made our dreams come true and for that we give you 1997 and beyond!"

Energy and adrenaline was high as the boys came back to the hotel. They all were so hyped 'cause they could see their families, friends, and they would hit the USA this coming summer. Their manager decided that 'Quit Playin' Games With My Heart' would be the first single in the US. It was a sleepers song on the European album, but they were gonna try it anyhow. Later on that night, Brian took a shower, got his boxers on and pulled out his address book. Their crazy schedules had been so busy all winter and spring that Brian had no time to even call his family, let alone his friends, but now he was gonna catch up on it. "Hey Frick, who are you writin'?", Nick asked as he put his T-shirt on.

"My family and friends.",he answered concentrating on what he was writing.

"I am so excited that I can get my license when I get back home Bri.",he said.

All of the boys had grown up a lot. Howie was twenty-three and he grew his hair from short and curly to long and curly. AJ was ninteen and changed his hair so many times everybody lost count. Kevin was twenty-four and cut his hair. Brian was now twenty-two going on twenty-three where as little Nicky was now seventeen years old. Their voices also changed and became richer and more wholesome. Especially Nick's voice. He was not the same thirteen year old boy who sang on the first album way back in '92.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Brian's letters were being received with much anticipation.

"Oh look Harold!" Brian's mother Jackie Littrell cried. "Our baby has written us!"

Many expected Brian to write, but not Michelle who was now eighteen. She figured he was too busy or didn’t care, that is until a letter arrived in the mail.

"Oh my god! Danielle!",she screamed as she quickly began to open the letter. It felt thick and it even smelt like him.

Danielle, who was now fourteen and grew up a lot, didn’t particularly care since she and Nick didn’t say goodbye properly and she felt bad for what happened. "Big deal Mich." she replied.

The letter said how he was gonna send two tickets to them so they could come down and visit him and Nick for a couple of weeks during the summer. They decided that August would be a good time 'cause they had so much work to do. They had to do interviews, appearances, and film three videos in L.A. 'Quit Playin' Games With My Heart' was scheduled to be shot in the first week of June. The song was an instant hit. It was one of the top songs of the summer and the video wasn’t too bad either.

Danielle and Mick couldn't believe that the boys they hung out with in the summer were becoming so popular now. They didn’t discuss it with others 'cause they knew that Nick and Brian and they weren't gonna use them to try and be cool with people. Both girls were looking forward to going to Florida again. Mostly Dani because she felt bad about the way things ended between her and Nick. This summer would be the best summer of their lives, not to mention change their lives forever.
