Everyone's heard stories like this one: The hero or heroine is wandering through a dark and lonely mountain range on some kind of a quest. The mountain opens up, a light shines from within the earth, and the hero or heroine walks insideinto the world of dwarves and gnomes and hidden treasure.
According to the village sorcerers of Eastern Europe, this opening in the rocks is quite real, and we can learn how to find it for ourselves.
Start with a rock, any rock. Choose one that you like. If need be, you can work with a small one, the kind that will fit in your hand. Personally, I like to hike out to where I can find large rock outcroppings and escarpmentsreal serious stone people.
Once you have chosen a rock, enter into a state of meditation. Relax. Let your thoughts float away and disappear. When your mind is no longer clouded with mental chatter, shift your awareness to your body. This is important: your attention must rest in your body instead of your mind.
When you have entered fully into your body, examine your rock. Are you a visual person? Then gaze at your rock. Are you a feeling person? Run your hands over your rock, touch it, place your cheek against it and feel its warmth and coolness.
Better still, use your eyes and your sense of touch at the same time.
Whether you're working with a pebble or Mt. Everest, you will eventually notice that there's a part of the rock that looks and feels different. Different in what way? Well, this part of the rock will just seem softer. It's like the soft spot on a baby's head. This spot is the rock inner doorway.
Now focus all your attention on that part of the rock. Breathe deeply. Close your eyes. Imagine that you are entering the rock through its doorway.
What comes next? That depends on you and your rock. Everyone's experience is individual. Some people simply feel an incredible sense of calm; their whole being slows down and moves on geological time, which is restful indeed. Other people see visionspictures and images floating vividly through their minds. These images are part of the imprint of everything that's ever happened here on planet Earth, encoded in the stones. Rocks are very slow and retentive, and they remember everything. They store the imprint of the planet's history in their crystalline grid. If you tap into that endless streams you have found hidden treasure indeed. Some people see the recent past, like Indian tribes wandering the land. Others see a past more distant. I know of Californians who have practiced this technique and seen echoes of lost Lemuria appear before their inner eyes, and I know of other people who have calmly observed the dinosaurs at their prehistoric pastimes. Like I said, it all depends on you and your rock. But whatever you see, enjoy.
