The Game Of Cricket

Cricket is a game which has three parts:- Batting, Bowling, and Fielding. We play on a rectangular turf patch called "A Pitch" in the middle of the oval shaped field, where the two main aspects of the game is played , one is batting and the other is bowling. The pitch is 22 steps long and 6 steps wide. at the end of the both sides of the pitch are one pair of three sticks called wickets, so there are total of 6 wickets on a pitch. There are eleven players in a team, and usually the basic team consist of five batsman, 5 bowlers and a wicketkeeper and everyone is the fielder. There are two kinds of a cricket game: - The first one is a Test match and the second is One-day international. Nowadays, One-day internationals are being played the most. In olden days there were only test matches.

Batting

A Bat is made of wooden a special willow with a handle with which the batsman holds the bat. It looks like something shown below.

Before going for batting, the batsman has to make sure that he is safe from having a dangerous injury. For that he has to wear certain things to save himself. These things he wears it on his hands, his legs and also his private part and he also covers his head with a helmet if he needs it. The pics down shows the kind of gloves the batsman wears and leg pads, though there are many things to cover himself, but the main are shown below!

When a match is played there are always two batsman who bat for their team. One batsman is at one end of the pitch infront of the three stumps, and the other batsman who is his partner is at the other end of the pitch behind the crease line. Batting is done when a bat is used to hit and play the ball all over the field. Batting is quite exciting, you get to see batsman spanking all kinds of bowlers all over the place and playing shots all over the place. If the ball rolls and passes the boundaries, the batsman gets four runs for that, and if it goes straight on top of the boundary without any bounce, with in the boundary, the batsman gets six runs. If a batsman completes his fifty runs, he does half-century and if he makes 100 runs he makes a century.

BOWLING

The ball used in the game of cricket is a leather ball with threading on it and it is known as a cock-ball or season ball or cricket ball. The following picture shows us how it looks like!

Bowling is done by one person from the opponents team, the bowler has to deliver a ball to make the batsman play the ball. A one-day international match has fifty overs and each over consist of six deliveries which means the bowler has to bowl the batsman six times in order to complete an over. The bowler is not allowed to deliver two overs in a row, so a next bowler is replaced after one over. the bowler has certain restrictions while bowling. These are:-

  1. He shouldnt has more than half of his front feet pass the bowling crease, otherwise it would be a No-ball and the opponents will get a run as well an extra delivery to face.
  2. He should be aware that he doesntn't goes way too outside the width of the pitch while bowling a delivery.
  3. He has to obey and not argue about the Umpire's decisions, and always appeal to the umpire with the statement,"Howz that?" if he thinks that the batsman is LBW, that is Leg Before Wicket.
  4. He has to be careful with the wide lines on the batting stumps. If his Bowling goes wider than the wide line the opponents will get a wide run and an extra delivery to face.
  5. He will get a No-ball if he delivers a full-toss delivery above the waist height of the batsman. And the same applies for a delivery when he bowls a delivery and it bounces on the pitch and goes above the batsman's shoulder height.
  6. He should not be rude to the batsman and have no heart feelings personally.

Test Matches

A test match is usually of 5 days. It has a total of 4 innings, and each team gets a total of two innings to play. The team with most of the runs wins the game. It usually is a long game but its exciting because cricket is such a game that when every bowl is delievered you would never come to know what the possibilty can be about that delivery. It depends on luck as well.

One-Day International Matches

A One-Day international game is a limited over game. There are fifty overs for each team to play, the team which bats makes a run-target and after the fifty overs, whatever the score made is being chased by the bowling team when they bat. If the bowling team chases the total they win the game otherwise they lose. Supposing we consider a game between Pakistan and India, Pakistan wins the toss and opts to bat first, then simultaneously India bowls first. After fifty overs Pakistan makes a target of 280, so then India gets the chance to bat while Pakistan bowls. If in the second innings India chases the 280 within 50 overs, India wins otherwise if they fail to reach the target in fifty overs they lose.Nowadays, Worldcups are usually played as One-Day Internationals. In a World cup, a team competes with other other cricket playing nations and the team who wins their finals, takes home the World cup.
