On this page I am going to show my canes and walking sticks I have carved and made on my Craftsman Router Crafter and drill press lathe.

Above are some cane handles and sticks I carved. The dog resembles the Yellow Lab I used to own.

Below is my Craftsman Router Crafter. I use it to make the cane bodies. In this case I am using a piece of poplar 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 36". The wood is chucked in the machine. The machine locks into 24 graduations on the circumference of the intended cane. The router is pulled along the the rails for each graduation. The router is lowered until the correct diameter is obtained.

Spiral and straight flutes can also be added by using core box or ogee bits in the router. The Router Crafter is great for making table legs and I made two pool cues that came out real straight and true.

Below is the one inch diameter brass tubing I use to connect the lower section of cane or walking stick to the top section. You can almost see the 1/4" lag stud that holds them together with 5 minute epoxy.

Above is the finished walking stick with the hand carved spirit and compass.

Below is my first lathe. I bought it to make the upper part of my walking sticks. It is on this lathe that I got hooked on woodturning.
