Chapter 84
In the locker room, Michelle watched as Chelsea changed clothes. She could tell something was on Chelsea’s mind so she asked, “Wanna talk?”
“Sorta.”
“Does it have to do with Alex?”
“And Kevin.” Chelsea finished tying her shoes and looked at Michelle. “Kevin and I slept together while I was in Virginia and he filed for divorce so that we could be together.”
“WOW! But you and Alex were fine earlier. Does he even know?”
“Yeah, and he forgave me…but that’s not the problem. The problem is…Alex needs a best man.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I think Alex should ask Kevin to be his best man.”
“WHOA! Are you nuts?”
“I think I am.”
“Isn’t Alex pissed at Kevin?”
“Slightly.”
“Then why on earth do you think Alex should ask Kevin to be his best man?”
“Come on. Let’s go! I’ll tell you as we’re working out.”
The two women went out to the gym where they found Nick waiting for them. While Michelle put Chelsea through her workout, Chelsea explained to both of them why she thought Alex should ask Kevin to be his best man. Nick agreed with her and they talked about how to best approach Alex with it. Chelsea wasn’t really worried though. She knew he would listen to reason.
As they were finishing the workout, Alex returned with Annie pulling him along.
“MAMA!” squealed the little girl and she bounced into her mother’s arms.
“Hey baby! Have you behaved for everyone?”
“Yes ma’am. Leighanne took me to the beach this morning too.”
“I heard. I have a surprise for you.”
“What is it?”
“Your grandfather is going to meet us tomorrow and spend the day with you, Papa J, and me.”
“My grandfather? You mean the one who’s been so mean to us?”
Chelsea smiled, “He was but we’ve worked things out. He’s really excited and looking forward to meeting you!”
Alex moved to her and gave her a kiss. “Hey, ‘Beautiful’. Are you done?”
“Yes.”
“Good. We can spend some time together before sound-checks.”
“How long do you have?”
“A few hours. I thought we could check out a couple shops for a dress for the little pumpkin.”
“I need a shower first.”
Annie gave her mother a sniff and in a voice very much like AJ’s, said, “You are stinky.”
Everyone burst out laughing as Chelsea groaned, “Gee thanks!”
AJ took Annie from Chelsea. “Come on, ‘Pumpkin’. Let your mom go shower and change.”
“Okie dokie.”
Chelsea gave another groan. “She’s been around you guys TOO much.”
AJ and Nick laughed as Michelle said, “It could be worse. She could sound like Justin Timberlake.”
“True! Alex, I won’t be long.”
“Okay. We’ll meet you at the bus.”
