Part 4
Backstage, as the guys were getting ready to do an interview for a local radio station, Brian nudged AJ and asked, “So, did you talk to her?”
A big, goofy grin spread as AJ said, “Yeah, I did and I gave her my cell number.”
“Did she say she’d call?”
“She said she’d think about it. Get this…I’m her daughter’s favorite!”
“Who’s that, ‘J’?” asked Howie joining the two.
“The little girl who got knocked down when we pulled up. I got Tony to bring her to the front with her mother.”
“So what’s she look like?” asked Nick.
“She’s adorable…long, brownish blond hair, a little button nose, and when she smiles, she’s missing her two front teeth.”
“The MOM?” questioned Nick.
“No, you dork…the little girl.”
Nick gave an exasperated sigh as he rolled his eyes. “I MEANT what does the MOM look like.”
AJ laughed, “I know but I couldn’t resist. Her mom is gorgeous….the little girl is the spitting image of her mother except for her eyes. Mom’s about Howie’s height, maybe a little taller, with a smile that could melt an ice cream cone and her eyes…she’s got the most amazing blue eyes…as blue as….” AJ stopped to think of a way to describe Chelsea’s eyes.
By now, Kevin was with them and had heard AJ describe her. “Blue as the sea?” he suggested.
AJ’s eyes were wide. “THAT’S IT!”
“What’s her name?” asked Brian.
That’s when it hit him. “Damn it! I don’t know their names.”
“Smooth move,” laughed Nick. “Wanna make time with a chick and don’t ask her name.”
Kevin’s expression had clouded as memories flooded his senses. “How old was her daughter?”
“I don’t know,” shrugged AJ. “Five…six.”
“If she’s got a child, don’t you think she’s got a boyfriend or a husband?” quizzed Howie.
“That’s just it. I wrote my number on the palm of her left hand, so I could check and there were no rings. In fact, the only jewelry I remember was a necklace with a star pendant.”
Kevin felt a chill down his spine. Without a word, he left the room.
Howie was the only one who noticed Kevin’s expression and his exit. Quietly, as Brian and AJ went on talking, he followed Kevin and found him talking to Marcus.
As Marcus left, Kevin turned to Howie who said, “You think it’s her, don’t you?”
“Who else has eyes as blue as the sea and would be wearing a star pendant?”
“Kevin, it could be anyone. It’s been…what?”
“Seven years,” whispered Kevin as a single tear slid down. “It’s been seven years.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I sent Marcus to find out and bring her backstage.”
“And what about AJ? He’s going to be hurt if it is her because it’s clear, you’re not over her. And what about Dianne?”
“All I know, Howie, is that I need to find out if it is her. Come on, let’s get the interview done and I’ll figure out the rest when I know for certain if it’s her or not.”
The two men rejoined the other three and the interview got underway.
