Part 36

As the door swung shut, Kevin turned to face his wife and his heart broke seeing her tears.  He had never meant to hurt either woman but in the end, he’d done just that.  Now it was time to fix it.  He moved slowly to Dianne, opening his arms to her, and she stepped into his embrace.  His arms tightly around her, her emotions spilled out in sobs and tears.  Kevin stood silently holding her, his own tears intermittently falling into her hair.

Pulling away, Dianne looked up at Kevin and asked tearfully, “Have I lost you?”

“No, you haven’t but I won’t lie to you and tell you I don’t care about her.”

Dianne acknowledged him with a weak nod as she wiped her tears.

“Chelsea meant it when she said she was in love with AJ.  He’s always been her favorite…even when she was with me.”

“Then how did you two get together?”

Wiping a stray tear, Kevin said, “Let’s go sit down and I’ll tell you everything.”

Together, the couple went out to the living room where they settled on the couch, Kevin holding Dianne close to him.  For the next half hour, the story of their relationship was told from the very beginning when Marcus introduced them to what happened on the deck before dinner.  He didn’t leave anything out, including how Mr. Whitlock had disowned Chelsea to stripping to make ends meet, despite Chelsea’s wishes that Dianne not know that.

When he was done, Kevin said “Dianne, I didn’t mean to hurt you.  It’s just…well, I guess I hadn’t really resolved my own feelings for Chelsea and this whole situation.  I never stopped loving her; I never told her it was over or good-bye; and not a day has gone by in the last seven years that I haven’t thought about her.  At shows or whenever fans were gathered, I’d look for her and my heart would stop when I’d see a girl that remotely resembled her.  I’d see a shooting star and remember how she would tell me to close my eyes and make a wish.  I would have married her then if she’d told me she was pregnant and if she had wanted to be with me now, I would have.”

“If you loved her so much, why did you break up with her?”

Kevin smiled lovingly, reaching out to brush a piece of hair behind her ear.  “Because I was in love with you too.  I don’t regret marrying you, Dianne.  You’re my best friend.”

“But I haven’t given you a baby.”

“Don’t do this, Dee.  We agreed to wait to have children.”

“But…”

“I’m serious Dianne.  Don’t be upset about that and don’t resent or be jealous of Chelsea either.”

“Are you going to sue for full custody?”

“No, and I don’t want you to bring it up again.  I didn’t tell you the whole story for you to turn it around and make Chelsea look like a bad mother,” answered Kevin sternly.  Seeing Dianne’s remorseful blush, he softened his tone and said, “Chelsea and I have agreed to joint custody.  Annie will be with us until the end of the school year because Chelsea has to have surgery on her ankle to fix it and she’s going to be off her feet for a while.”

“When is she going to have the surgery done?”

“She’s going to the doctor tomorrow to have him look at it and decide what to do next.”  Kevin tried to stifle a yawn but it escaped anyway.

“Why don’t you go to bed?  You’re still exhausted from the tour.”

“You gonna join me?” leered Kevin.

“As soon as I finish in the kitchen.”

Wagging his eyebrows, Kevin pulled Dianne to him kissing her passionately.  “Forget the kitchen, baby.  Let’s go practice making a baby,” he cooed as he ran his hand up the inside of her thigh.

“You’re on, Mr. Richardson,” and the two headed upstairs to their room undressing as they went.
