Part 7

For the next three nights, Howard went to Samantha in her dreams and each time, he found himself falling deeper in love with her. During the days, he sat with her, wiping her forehead when her fever broke, feeding her the meals Nickolas brought, and holding her hand when she was awake as they talked. As his love for her grew, so did his guilt….guilt for tricking her into believing that he was her husband.

On the third night, he decided that he needed to undo Alexander’s magic and let her remember Brian. He was going to tell her the truth but as they walked through the forest, he felt the familiar stirrings of passion. Turning to look behind him, he found that Kevin had joined him in her dream.

"My lord," greeted Howard bowing graciously to the equally exquisite dark man with green eyes.

"No need for that," Kevin said as he took Samantha’s hand in his. His emerald eyes held hers as he pressed his lips to the smooth skin of her hand. "I understand now why Lord Howard has been foregoing our evenings together. Such beauty is hard to resist."

Samantha blushed, "Thank you."

"My lady, this is Lord Kevin…my benefactor."

"My pleasure," smiled Samantha.

"The pleasure is all mine," replied Kevin in a deep, sultry voice. "I hate to interrupt but I must speak to Howard."

Samantha looked to Howard as he said, "I’ll be back, I promise."

"I can’t wait," she whispered.

Emerging from the dream, Howard felt Kevin’s hot breath on his neck and his strong hand on his groin.

"She’s beautiful," Kevin purred as he stroked Howard’s hardening cock.

Leaning against his master’s strong chest, Howard could only moan, "Very."

"Are you in love with her?"

"I am falling for her."

Kevin pulled away, jealousy flowing through his veins. "What have you learned?"

"Not much. I’m guessing she was compromised."

"By this Brian?"

"Yes."

Moving to the bed, Kevin stared at Samantha. "Why is she still pure then…if she was compromised?"

Howard hadn’t missed the iciness of Kevin’s voice as he said, "I don’t know."

"So you haven’t found out if she’s the one or not?"

"Not yet."

Spinning on Howard with fire blazing in his eyes, "Find out, damnit! My time is running out."

Undaunted by Kevin’s fury, Howard replied, "The only way to find out is to see her unclothed…."

"And Howard is too much of a gentleman to do that," hissed Alexander as he swooped into the room.

Ignoring Alexander, Howard looked at Kevin. "She thinks I’m her husband. As soon as she’s well, I’ll find out."

"By then, it’ll be too late! She’ll be in love with you and won’t want to have anything to do with Kevin," argued Alexander. "Let me have her, Kevin, and I’ll find out for sure."

"And if she’s not the one?" queried Kevin.

"Then I’ll have my way with her," stated Alexander vindictively as he eyed Howard.

Kevin saw the pain in Howard’s eyes. Of the three, Howard was the most unchanged over the centuries by their powers. He had a kind heart and was always a gentleman, even with the wenches they had shared. His one desire was to find true love, not the kind that the three men shared. Kevin couldn’t avoid the tender feelings he had for the younger man and he had no doubt that Howard would do what was right despite the pain.

Placing a hand on Howard’s shoulder, Kevin said gently, "No, you won’t, Alex. Howard will find out and if she’s the one, I’ll transform myself into him so she won’t know."

"Thank you," whispered Howard gratefully.

Enraged, Alexander flew from the room slamming the door behind him.

The men arguing had caused Samantha to stir and now, the slamming of the door awakened her. Seeing Howard by her bed, she reached for his hand and he looked down at her.

"My lady," he soothed moving closer. "You should be asleep."

"Something woke me."

Kevin stepped closer as he said, "I’ll leave you two alone. My lady, I’m certainly relieved to see you feeling better. Lord Howard has been extremely worried about you."

Those green eyes…she knew them from her dream but how did she know him? The frustration of not remembering brought tears to her eyes.

Tenderly, Howard wiped them for her and whispered, "I’ll be back in a minute. I’m going to walk Lord Kevin to the door."

At the door, Howard lowered his voice to speak to Kevin. "I’m going to tell her the truth."

"Before you turn her?"

"I have to. I can’t go through eternity with her with this lie between us. I can undo Alexander’s magic….if she truly loved Brian. He could take her memories of him but he can not take her love. The love she feels for me is what she must have felt for him."

"You’re taking a chance. What if she’s the one? Revealing the truth will only cause more problems."

"Not if I can win her love."

"And if you can’t?"

"Then I won’t turn her and she will die once she bears your son….like the witch said. I’ll wait until she is stronger but I must tell her."

Kevin reached out to caress the younger man’s cheek in an effort to erase the pain. "You have sacrificed so much for me and I love you for that. If you need me to work my magic on her, I will."

"No, sire. I must win her love and affection the honest way. Give me a week. If I haven’t won her love, then you can take her for your own and find out if she is the one you need."

Kevin started to leave but turned back. "If it helps any, you have my love….for eternity."
