Part 22

Frightened, Samantha slowly made her way to Alex praying all the while that he wasn’t  dead.  As she reached the two, they both transformed into their true selves but the wounds were still there.  Her attacker was a stranger to her but obviously a demon looking to score points with the Source and she knew she was vulnerable. She took out her stones, placed them in a triangle to surround herself and Alex and a soft glow enveloped them as she took Alex’s head into her lap.

“Oh Alex…why?  Why did you have to do this?” she whispered as she wiped blood from his cheek.

Weakly, “I….I…had….to…protect you.  I…..promised Howard.”

Her tears fell on his wounds and magically, he began to heal but she didn’t see.  Samantha was crying too hard to realize what was happening.

His fingers tangled in her hair as he said, “Don’t cry, my love. I will be okay as soon as I can feed.  Is he dead?”

“Yes.”

Alex closed his eyes.  He couldn’t use her; it would kill her if he wasn’t careful but what was he to do?  There was no way she could get him back to the château and he didn’t have the strength to go to Kevin or Howard to get help.  There was no other way.  “Samantha, lay beside me.”

She didn’t question him and did as he requested.  She knew as well as he did what could happen but she also knew that if she didn’t, they’d never make it back to safety.

He wrapped his arms around her and slowly, as tenderly as he could, began.  Life flowed from her body as he regained his strength and she weakened. When he felt her limp, he stopped.  His strength renewed, he gathered her in his arms and fled into the night praying that he would get her back to Kevin and Howard before it was too late.
