Part 14

Standing at the window staring out at the gardens, Kevin sipped on his brandy as he watched Samantha showing Nickolas what she wanted in the new garden.  A slight smile danced on his lips as he saw her stand and place a hand on her belly.  No one could tell she was with child, but they knew.  She had brought so much happiness to ‘Eternity’.  So why did he have this uneasy feeling like something was about to take that happiness away?

“Watching Samantha?”

Kevin turned to see Howard standing in the doorway.  “Why aren’t you with her?”

“She’s been spending time with Alex.”

“Something wrong?”

“No, not with us.”  Howard watched as Kevin turned back to watch Samantha.  He knew this mood of Kevin’s all too well.  “So tell me.  What’s got you looking so dark?”

“I don’t know.  I’ve just got this uneasy feeling….that something’s going to happen.”

Howard shook his head. “You’ve lived so long with the darkness that now you don’t know how to let go.   She can see the future, Kevin, and she hasn’t had any visions…not of danger.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m positive.”

Looking down at his glass, Kevin’s voice dropped as he said, “I…we…can’t lose her, Howard.”

“We aren’t going to lose her, Kevin.”

Kevin turned once more to face Howard.  “What would make her completely happy…never want to leave us again?”

“She’s NOT going to leave, Kevin.  She has found complete happiness…with all three of us.  The only thing we can give her now is to stop bickering.”

Kevin wasn’t hearing Howard.  “Take her as your bride.  The love you share is stronger than ours.  We’ll plan it all…get a priest…bring the townspeople here….a celebration that will last for days.  Her family?  Does she ever talk of them?”

Howard shook his head realizing Kevin had his mind set.  “No, she doesn’t talk of them but I’ll mention it to her.  If you’re worried about something happening, is it wise to bring all those people here?”

“It’ll be safe as long as we’re here together…to protect her.  Go ask her to be your bride.”

He knew there was no sense arguing with Kevin and he wasn’t totally against the idea of a wedding.  He definitely wanted to make Samantha his bride but what if Kevin’s uneasy feeling was real?  What danger was there?  What could possibly hurt them now?
