What exactly are Statistics and Probability?

Statistics

Statistics is the mathematics of the collection, organization, and interpretation of numerical data, especially the analysis of population characteristics by inference from sampling. Statistical analyisis is used to determine patterns and trends in a series of events so that future events may be better predicted in the future. A statistic can be called a numerical value that characterizes the population from which it was obtained.

Probability

Probability is the study of events, and the likelihood that a given event will occur in a series.
