                                                JAMES RIVER WOODCARVERS COMPETITION 2007

 

Ribbons will be awarded as follows:

First Place -  blue ribbon

Second Place - red ribbon

Third Place - white ribbon

Peoples Choice ribbon

Judges Creative Award Ribbon

Best of Division rosettes will be awarded in the Youth, Novice, Intermediate and  Open Divisions

Best of Show rosette will be awarded to best of the Novice, Intermediate and Open division winners.  The Youth Division will not be eligible for Best of Show award.

 

ENTRY RULES    2007

 

1.        Competition is open to all carvers

 

2.     There will be an entry fee of $2.00per entry with a maximum of $8.00 for club members,  and a fee of $4.00 per entry with a maximum of $15.00 for non-club members.

 

3.      Pre-registration is strongly recommended.  Pre-registration begins October 1, 2007 and registration forms must be received by Oct. 28, 2007 so that entry tags may be mailed back to the entrant prior to bringing the entry to Woodcraft.   Mail entry forms to

        OR give the entry form to a club officer OR leave the entry form at The Woodcraft Store.

             Make checks payable to James River Woodcarvers

 

    4.  Carvings may be left at Woodcraft starting Sat. Oct. 27, 2007 and must be received at Woodcraft no later than 9:30 a.m. Nov. 3, 2007

 

     5.    Judging will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Nov.3, 2007

 

     6.    All carving entries must have been completed since Sept 1, 2005

 

  7.   A blue ribbon winning carving in the OPEN division, in any carving category, in a previous JRWCA competition. is not eligible for this competition.  A blue ribbon winning carving in an INTERMEDIATE division category, in any previous JRWCA competition, is not eligible for entry in the intermediate division, but may be entered in the  competition in the OPEN division.  A blue ribbon winning carving in the NOVICE division, in any category, in a previous competition, is not eligible for entry in the NOVICE division, but may enter the carving in the Intermediate or Open divisions.

 

 

8.  A competitor may enter two (2) entries per category and may enter as many categories as desired. entries.

 

  9.  Work completed wholly or in part by duplicator carving machinery or from a kit will NOT be allowed to be entered for competition.

 

10. There will be four divisions of competition:

a.       Youth – 17 years of age or younger and less than 2 years carving experience

b.       Novice  -- Novice is defined as a carver who has been carving less  than two years. Previous Blue ribbon winners at a JRWCA show in this division must move up to the Intermediate division in that category in which the blue ribbon was won.

c.        Intermediate –.  Open to any carver.  Previous blue ribbon winners at a JRWCA show in this division must move up to the Open division in the category the blue ribbon was won.

d.        Open   -- Open division is open to all carvers. A carver winning a Blue ribbon in an Open division category, in any JRWCA competition, may not enter in the Intermediate Division in that category and the carving winning the blue ribbon is not eligible for competition

 

  11.  All entries must be carved and finished or painted, etc. by the carver. 

 

  12.  Carvings in the "Under Advisement" are eligible for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons, but are NOT eligible for "Best of Division" , "Best of Show" or  “Judges Creative Award”.

 

  13.  Carvings will be judged on:

                a. Design, originality                                                   0 to 10 points

                b. Skill of execution, technical difficulty                  0 to 10 points

                c. Surface finish                                                          0 to 10 points

                d. Final presentation                                                  0 to 10 points

 

   14.  Entrants are responsible for placing their entry in the appropriate category.  However, the judges, at their discretion may move a carving to a more appropriate category in the Youth, Novice or Intermediate divisions.

 

   15.  Judges decisions are final.
