Top High School Seniors
In Virginia High School Football
in the 2002-2003 season
(first 15 are in order of talent. Others in no particular order):

1.Xavier Adibi (click here for his photo!) 6-4 235 DE Phoebus High (Hampton)
(Saw him play against Warwick High School and then against Patrick Henry-Ashland as a junior.
NFL body. Great physique. Quick. 1st-team All-State pick as a junior by the 'Virginia High
School Coaches Association.' Fast. A little like Chris Slade, the ex-UVa All-American. Don't
agree with those who say he may be over-rated. His team would have beaten the Division
5 champion, Robinson, by 30 points had they ever played.)
2. Chris Johnson 6-6 260 DT Charlottesville High
(Saw him play against Louisia County High School as a junior. As big as advertised. Not just a big strong guy, he has some athleticism: 11 pts. in first basketball game as a JR. UVa and Tech could both use him. 1st-team All-Valley District at DT as a JR.)
3. Terrance Hall 6-5 285 Varina High
(Saw him play against Highland Springs High School as a junior. Looks like a big-timer to me. Has it all, but needs more strength. 1st-team All-Capital District as an OT as a JR.)
4. Noah Southerland 6-5 255 Kellum High (Virginia Beach)(listed from 225 to 255)
5. Michael McDonald 6-1 225 LB Herndon High
(Saw him play against Centreville High School as a junior. Outside linebacker. Height is uncertain. Very hard-nosed and athletic. Physique of a 30 year-old.)
6. Akeem Jordan 6-2 205 RB/DB Harrisonburg High (Shades of Ronald Curry: Jordan ran, passed, and scored 40 TD's as a junior and was picked as the 'Associated Press'
State Player-Of-The-Year for his 13-1 championship squad. As a sophomore, played DB, intercepting
8 passes (4 in one game), earning 1st-team All-Valley District and 2nd-team All-Region II honors.Academic questions?)
7. Paris Jackson 6-1 188 WR/KR Westfield High
(1st-team All-Northern Region as a junior; 1st-team Washington Post All-Met; 42 catches
for 544 yards and 11 TD's as a junior.)
8. Matt Welsh 6-5 255 OT Centreville High (1st-team All-State at offensive guard by the 'Virginia High School Coaches Association.'
Has committed to Virginia Tech very early.)
9. Jon Fulton 6-2 19 QB George Washington High (Danville) (Passed for 1,095 yardds and 9 TD's in the regular season. 1st team All-Northwest Region.)
10.Brandon Brown 6-1 190 RB Galax High (State Co-Player-Of-The-Year as a junior by the 'Virginia High School Coaches Association' in Group A; ACC schools watching closely.)
11.Flodell Kissee 6-5 285 OT Gar-Field High (2nd-team All-State in Group AAA by the "Virginia High School Coaches Association.')
12.Robbie Catterton 6-3 190 DB Kellum High (VA Beach)
(UVa committed. Not known for football, his team had an outstanding year.)
13.Kory Robertson 6-4 270 DE Magna Vista High (Ridgeway)
(The 'Richmond Times-Dispatch' reported on 5-18-02
that Robertson has commited to sign with Virginia Tech.)
14.Eddie Pinigis 6-8 280 OL Jefferson Forest High (Forest)
(The 'Charlottesville Daily-Progress' reported on 7-18-02
that Pinigis has commited to sign with UVa. He has huge size and comes from a well-known program.
Had 3 1-A scholarship offers, which does not sound very impressive.
15.Barry Booker 6-3 240 OL Jefferson Forest High (Forest)
6-3 240... or 6-5 255?? Listed in various sources as different sizes. Time will tell. Not highly-recruited, but headed to
Virginia Tech. But then, how many of UVa or Tech's players at this stage are highly-recruited?
16.Marshall Ausberry 6-6 330 OL West Springfield High (Springfield)
Has comitted to UVa. Not well-known.
17.James Terry 6-2 225 RB Woodbridge High
Not great statistics, but obviously UVa felt him worthy of a scholarship offer, and he comitted. Looks sturdy and athletic. Who knows?
18.Justin Bell 6-2 225 TE Mount Vernon High
Doug Doughty of 'The Roanoke Times'
reports that Virginia Tech has offered him in writing, and that UVa has verbally offered him.
My 10-12-01 notes said:" Junior tight end-defensive end (number 80) Justin Bell of Mount Vernon may also be at
least a 1-AA prospect. Listed at 6-2 225, he caught 2 TD passes in this game, and appears to have some athleticism."
19.Nick Marshman 6-5 263 TE Turner Ashby High (Harrisonburg)
Offered by Virginia Tech, says Doug Doughty of 'The Roanoke Times & World News.'
20.Phillip Brown 5-11 180 WR Phoebus High (Hampton)
(542 yards and 7 TD's receiving in regular season as a JR.)
I'm not as high on him as everyone else is.(Saw him play twice against
Warwick and Patrick Henry-Ashland. 1st-team All-State kick-returner.)
(All-State by the 'Virginia High School Coaches Association.')

(1st team All-Tidewater. 1st-team All-Eastern Region as a junior.)
John Taylor 6-1 215 LB Lloyd Bird (Chesterfirld)
(1st team All-Metro as picked by 'Richmond Times-Dispatch.')
Danual Pearce 6-0 225 LB Norview (Norfolk) (Saw him play against Hampton High School as a junior. Height questionable, but a great high school football player. 1st-team All-Eastern Region. 1st team All-Tidewater.)
Keith Jones 5-11 210 RB Lake Taylor High (Norfolk)
Darrylyn Fenner 6-0 190 Hampton High
(Saw him play against Norview High School as a junior. A linebacker in high school, but could convert to the defensive backfield in college. Strong.)

Brett Warren 6-2 205 LB Centreville (Clifton) (Dad is an ex-Washington
