Module 6 Test
1) Normally expressways do not have a very high rate of collisions.
2) Types of interchanges at expressways are called diamond, trumpet, and cloverleaf.
3) Before traveling long distances on the expressway, be sure to check your fluid levels and know your entrance and exit before you leave.
4) Highway hypnosis is a driver condition that is affected by the driver staring at the roadway for extended periods of time.
5) When choosing a ramp for entering the expressway, you should check for “DO NOT ENTER” and “WRONG WAY” signs at the ramp.
6) The three parts to and expressway entrance are the entrance ramp, the acceleration lane, and the merge area.
7) When entering the expressway, search for traffic ahead, a gap in traffic to merge, the ramp speed sign.
8) When in the acceleration lane, getting ready to get on the expressway, you should adjust your speed to the flow of traffic on the expressway.
9) When merging on to the expressway, you should never change two lanes at once, and then speed up.
10) A main problem when merging on to the expressway is no gap in traffic in which to merge.
11) Some expressway lanes come in from the left instead of the right, this presents a special problem because traffic in the left lane is usually traveling faster than in the right lane.
12) Driving on the expressway requires the driver to search farther down the road for clues.
13) You are driving and looking to get on I-95…you will be looking for a red, white, and blue sign.
14) Some expressways have minimum speed signs. This means you should not drive slower than the minimum speed posted.
15) You are driving on a three-lane highway for a long distance. You should drive in the center lane to avoid most conflicts.
16) It is important to keep a space cushion around your car when driving on the freeway, however, this is difficult when it is rush hour and traffic is high.
17) Passing a vehicle is dangerous anytime but it is more dangerous on the expressway because speeds are higher and danger can come up quickly.
18) If you want to get off the expressway but miss your exit, you should go to the next exit, cross over and return to your exit.
19) When leaving the expressway you should search early for your exit, signal early, and do most of your slowing in the deceleration lane.
20) A weave lane on the freeway is dangerous because it is both an entrance and an exit lane.
21) Pedestrians and bicyclists are not usually problems at an expressway exit.
22) If there are disabled vehicles on the side of the expressway you should reduce your speed and put more space between you and them.
23) If your vehicle becomes disabled on the expressway you should not ask for a ride from anyone who stops.
24) Construction areas on expressways require a driver to slow your speed and adjust your lane position.
25) Some expressways make the driver pay tolls. Threats at toll booths are as follows: traffic slows rapidly, traffic congestion, traffic merging from several other lanes.
