Willard Ray Custer, 86, of 1905 W. Washington St., died Wednesday at his home.

Born in Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Clemm T. and Florence M. Byrd Custer.

He was a Ford Motor Co. representative prior to inventing the Custer Channel Wing Aircraft, presently on display at the Smithsonian Institute.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown and served as Elder of the church.

He was a member of the Hagerstown Masonic Lodge No. 217 A F & A M.

He is survived by his wife, Lula E. Custer; two daughters, Helen C. Bock of Hagerstown and Vivian C. Jackson of Williamsport; two sons, Harold R. Custer of Hagerstown and Kenneth Reed Custer of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one brother, Grant L. Custer of Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. J. Russell Butcher will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations can be made to the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
