This link describes my personal “political socialization journey”

It all began August 3rd 1985, in a little town named Herndon. It was a bright sunny day… at least I like to think it was, I really wasn’t there yet… and it also just happens to be the day I came into the world. Birthday gifts are appreciated thank you J. Life was wonderful as far as I was concerned, and for two and a half years it continued that way. I discovered the world around me with the help of my two wonderful parents. Then, March 23rd 1988, my life was altered forever. I became a big sister. The Thorsen family was finally complete, and we’re all still here today.

As a child I was a bit eccentric. I refused to wear pants, and as a result I wore skirts for two years straight. I even went skiing with my family in a skirt and wool tights. Needless to say I’ve outgrown this quirk. Now I’m a happy and healthy 17 (soon to be 18!) year old, anxiously anticipating my high school graduation in two weeks. Two of my best friends, Yvonne and Aquila, I met in the tenth grade. The three of us were in the same English and History block class and we bonded fast with the help of movie nights and constant get-togethers.

We’re still friends today and are all looking forward to our last summer together before college. I’ll be going to Mary Washington College in the fall. Yvonne is headed down to Williamsburg to attend The College of William and Mary, and Aquila is headed to Lynchburg to go to Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. We all plan to stay in constant touch with each other and can’t wait to begin this new chapter in our lives.

While I’m not an avid follower of politics, I do try to stay informed about recent news and elections.  My mother is a teacher and pretty liberal in most of her viewpoints. As many of my opinions are the same as hers I think it’s safe to assume that I acquired many of my beliefs from her. I think government should have limited involvement in the personal lives of people. I’m also a very strong environmental rights activist and the environment is the basis for many of my beliefs.
