August 16 through 20, 2001, the DC gang met up with Alan and Lisa in Las Vegas Nevada for a vacation/mini reunion. Mom and Dad Maylott hadn't been Vegas since their honeymoon 30 years ago, and everyone else was new to the experience, except Lisa and Alan, who had at one time contemplated eloping there!! We stayed at the MGM Grand, a terrific place - very "kid-friendly" with lots to see and do, including great shows, restaurants, a river pool, and an indoor lion habitat!! Here are some of our favorite vacation pictures.
Vegas at Night
Although there is a lot to do and see during the day, nothing quite compares to the Vegas cityscape at night! It is really incredible, like a huge amusement park!
Treasure Island
Most of the casinos have some gimmick type of thing to reel in the gamblers! Treasure Island was no exception - their pirate ship show is one of the best attractions in Vegas, lots of gunpowder, yelling, and even a sinking!!
Caesar's Palace
Caesar's Palace is incredibly grand, with lots of columns, fountains, and decorative domes.
Little did we know it was also home to the coolest FAO Schwartz!! Check out the trojan horse!!

Catching Some Rays
With 110 degree heat in the shade, we did lots of hanging out at the pool. MGM has 6 and a half acres of water pools, and we especially liked rafting down the "River Pool", It had a pretty strong current too!! Here is Emma taking a breather from the pool to catch some time in the sun!
Mandalay Bay
Another cool attraction is at Mandalay Bay resort. There, they have a Shark and Reef exhibit that is incredible. Lots of great aquariums and animals to view, as well as the multitudes of sharks on display. of course, the main attraction for Emma was the pink lei in the gift shop, but who could argue with that??
