License Agreement

Thank you for using RuVdrill.xls and its associated files ("the program"). By your use, you agree to the following terms (scroll down to read all 10 paragraphs):

1. Macro code and spreadsheet design are copyright © 2001 by Michael Hansen. The words contained in the companion data files (wordlist.xls and wordlist.doc) are common words and phrases from a variety of sources and are not separately claimed for copyright protection. The Russian keyboard file (kbdru.kbd) is provided as freeware for anyone who wishes to use it.

2. If used beyond a 15-day trial period by tutors, schools, small businesses, corporations, churches, or groups, this program is shareware at $40 per site license. A site is defined as all your servers, desktop computers, and buildings within a 5-mile radius, all your portable computers anyplace, and all employees and bona fide members having an ongoing relationship with your organization. Network (both LAN and WAN) access by such employees and bona fide members is permitted. For example, registered students are covered by a school site license; casual visitors to a Web site or guest users of a network are not. Casual visitors/guest users may be offered a shareware copy of RUVDRL10.zip but shall not be granted direct execution access to the program. If you install the program on multiple servers in campuses located more than 5 miles apart, you must purchase a license for each site. Also note that because the program requires Microsoft Excel, all users must have a valid license for Microsoft Excel.

3. If used by an individual for noncommercial, private study, the program is freeware. Registration in this case is optional (you may fill out the form below and email it to mhansen@cathedral.org). Tutoring, whether for hire or as part of a not-for-profit educational program, does not qualify for a freeware license. If you are a tutor, you must purchase a license either for yourself or for the organization that oversees your tutoring activities.

4. The program consists of RUVDRL10.zip, an archive file that when decompressed yields the following 7 files:

The original, unmodified files of this version can easily be recognized by their distinctive date and time stamps that indicate the version number. (For example, 01:00:00 a.m. denotes version 1.00.00.) For best results, you should pick a single folder on your hard drive, such as C:\Russian or C:\Myprogs\Russian, and use that folder to store all of the files together.

5. Whenever you distribute the program as shareware to another party, you agree to copy either the original .zip file (preferred) or all 7 of the files listed above, without modification. If you wish, you may separately give away modified versions of wordlist.xls or kbdru.kbd, provided that you clearly indicate to the recipient that those files are your own creation and are not part of the RuVdrill product. If you have lost the unmodified versions of some or all of the files, you should visit www.angelfire.com/va2/russian to obtain a fresh copy.

6. This program may not be relicensed or bundled without permission of the copyright owner. You may not charge anyone for this program, except for a nominal fee to cover the cost of duplication. However, you may give a copy of the file RUVDRL10.zip to anyone as shareware.

7. You may not modify the VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) macro code or the structure of RuVdrill.xls without permission of the copyright owner. You further agree not to reverse engineer, disassemble, or "hack" into the code, nor to attempt through manual or automated means to crack any of the passwords used by the program. You acknowledge that although the passwords provide only a weak measure of security (inasmuch as there are many Excel-cracking programs readily available), the passwords are useful in protecting the VBA code and Excel spreadsheet structure from inadvertent alteration. You agree to preserve these mechanisms during your use of the program and during any subsequent retransmittal of RUVDRL10.zip that you may make to other parties.

8. The program as released is warranted to be free of macro viruses. (If you have any doubt as to the fidelity of your copy, visit www.angelfire.com/va2/russian to download a fresh copy.) No claim is made as to the accuracy of the data or the method used to assess correctness of the user's responses. Although reasonable efforts have been made to ensure proper operation, the program may contain bugs (inadvertent programming errors), typographical errors, and incompatibilities with other Excel files. By your use of the program, you accept the possibility of such errors and acknowledge the possibility of adverse consequences such as data loss and computer lock-up. In no event shall the copyright owner's liability for incorrect program operation exceed the amount you have paid for your site license.

9. Please send comments and corrections by email (mhansen@cathedral.org) or by U.S. mail. I am particularly interested in enlarging the word list to several thousand entries. Thanks in advance if you are willing to send your enlarged file back to me for the next version. Contributors will be acknowledged and will receive a rebate check (max. one rebate check per licensee) based on the number of acceptable new entries that are submitted:
