Only A Dream
By Kenneth R. Cabrieto

Her's is the first voice I hear when I wake up.
Whispering sweet things in my ear,
            Washing away my fears,
            Preventing any tears.

Hers is the first face I face,
            Any sadness it helps erase.
Helps me know I'll never have to give chase,
Because I could never lose her.

            Then I truly wake up.
            It was just a dream.
I'm not as happy as it would seem.
            In fact, I'm alone...

I will always be until I have her.
            Until my dreams come true.
            But they won't anytime soon.
Thus, this dream is my nightmare.

            One I face alone.
            Where no one truly knows,
            How I sleep at night.
            Where dreams come true---they might.
            But not anytime tonight.
Until then it's just only a dream.
