If I Could Have My Way
By Kenneth R. Cabrieto
I think I'm only finishing things
So I can move on the next project.
Disappointed, scared of the deadline -
Skipped on to the next prospect.
I've been scribbling ideas down
On index cards, dollar bills and receipts.
Making my life harder
With more goals I may not meet.
Haven't finished my last attempt
Already starting something new
Another strech at making my life better.
That will never make its debut.
Trapped inside this paradox,
It's enough to make me shout.
Tired of being stuck in V-A
Have to find a way out.
Grown weary of lamenting,
Surrounded by disdain,
Anticipation only leads to rejection,
About to expire from the pain.
If I could have my way,
I'd no longer be in the fire.
There wouldn't be any of this doubt -
No more journeys on the highwire.
If I could have my way,
Maybe for once I could thrive.
If I could have my way,
I wouldn't be struggling to survive.
