He came back with Brian, of course.
He looked at me. “Nick, I don’t want to talk to her, and I need to go get my stuff…”
“Dude, why are you mad at her?”
“Because she never wrote me back or anything…” Brian told Nick. Nick asked me the same question.
“Because I never got anything to write back to!”
“Erin, I promise you, I saw him write you the day we got to Florida! And everyday for like a week! I put several of those letters in the mailbox. So just talk to each other, okay?” Nick pleaded.
We agreed, and walked away from the crowd at the arena to the boardwalk.
“You really didn’t get any letters?” Brian asked, after looking at the ocean in silence for a minute.
“Of course not, why would I lie to you?”
“I figured you were just trying to blame it on me the fact that you never wrote back. I send you the address I was staying at for the time being. I don’t know what happened. I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”
“Yeah, me, too. I wasn’t mad, just sad we had lost touch. I’ve been feeling for two years like I lost my best friend.” I told him.
“I even called once, a few months after I left. But some dude answered the phone and said I had the wrong number.”
“Yeah, I moved a few months after you left.”
He nodded. “I still don’t know why you didn’t get the letters, I sent them all to..” he said the address.
I started to laugh.
“What’s so funny?” he had no idea what I thought was so funny.
In between laughs I said “That’s…the wrong..address! All this because you had one number off in the address!” I told him. He laughed, too.
“How long are you going to be here?” I asked finally.
“Two weeks. What about you?”
“If your staying two weeks, then so am I. We’ve got a lot of catching up to do!” I gave him a hug. We rejoined the others.
“Sorry AJ, I’m only staying another night. I can’t afford to get a hotel room for two weeks. It’s too expensive.” A girl was arguing with AJ. He was tall, had hazel eyes, and redish-brown hair.
“What if I knew somewhere you might be able to stay?” Nick came in.
“Where?” AJ asked hopefully.
Nick saw me and Brian walk up. “Hey, could Amy stay with you in the beach house if there’s any extra room?”
“Umm, sure. It’s alright with me, you might want to ask the others.” I told him.
“Thanks!” Amy, I’m guessing AJ’s girlfriend, said. AJ went with Amy to talk to the others.
“So? Are you two alright?” Nick asked, curiously.
“Yup, Frack, we’re cool, thanks.”
“What would you do without me?” Nick asked.
“Play Super Nintendo and not have to share a controller?” I said. “Speaching of with, you brought one, right?”
“Never leave home without it, it’s everywhere you wanna be!”
“I think that’s copyrighted by credit cards, but that’s cool. We gonna have to play, I haven’t kicked your butt in two years!” I told him.
“And you won’t this year either, I’ve been practicing.” Nick grinned.
We went back to the hotel room, all five of us. Amy had the couch. I finished getting the room they way I liked it. I figured I was going to spend two weeks there. I set up my stereo and even stick some posters on the wall. I had had the most awesome day! I was reunited with my best friend. Of course, we fought, but it didn’t last very long. I couldn’t wait until the morning, hopefully they wouldn’t be busy all day.
