The Truth About Happiness

I woke up one day and I realized:
I can't change anybody,
So how do I let them change me?
I fear myself.
Because, who am I to fear?
I am whatever they want,
Whatever they say,
Whatever they like.
I am fake.

So then I made the conscious decision that:
I would change.
And I did.
I didn't change myself.
I didn't change them.
I left them behind
To find myself.
I found myself,
My unchangeable self.
I found new friends,
My unchangeable friends.
Friends who laugh at my jokes
And like my ideas.
Friends who have fun.
I woke up one night and I realized:
I'm happy with my life
Because I am living my life.
My not their life.
I smile for real
Not for fake.
I feel loved
Because I know they don't lie.
There is no talking behind
My back.
And that makes me feel special.
I am not always the Center-of-attention,
But we are all the attention.
We are the ones everyone
Deeply desires
To imitate.
Not for our beauty
Or even our brains,
But our smiles.
Our true smiles
That reflect somewhat untouchable bliss.
The real thing
This time.

I know that I will never:
Need a fake laugh
Or stupid grin again
Need to fear
What they say when I'm gone
Have to cry alone
