| I know that at times, dubs can be very bad. Well, I think this is one of those times. I just happened to kind of start out with the dub and work my way into the original. The first time I ever saw anything Cardcaptor Sakura was when my friend bought a couple of the manga and let me read them. Well, it just so happened that about a week later, I saw a commercial on Kids WB for a new show called "CardCaptors". I got really excited and called my friend and everything. When it came on, I started watching it. I had no idea what a messed up version it was of the real thing. So, here's a list of things that I've thought were a real shame ever since I discovered them. |

| ~ Kero's voice: In the dub, he sounds like a surfer dude. I didn't have so much of a problem with that until I got a CD with Okashi no Uta (Song of Sweets) on it, sung by Kero and Spinel. His voice by Hisakawa Aya is soooo cute in the Japanese version! I thought, "That's not fair! Why doesn't Kero have a cute voice like that in English?" And I didn't like the surfer dude voice ever since. |

| ~ Kero's name: First of all, they spell it wrong. It's Keroberos in the dub, but it's really more like Kerberos. Technically, it's Keruberosu. Second, they pronounce Kero like Keero, when the "e" should be more like the one in "met". |

| ~ Sakura's name: I've known from the beginning that the accent goes on the "Sa". At least they kept the name. They could have changed it to Sarah or Jane. |

| ~ The word "Clow": Now on to the big mess-ups. In the dub, it rhymes with "now". That's wrong! It should rhyme with "glow" as in the Glow card! What a wonderful way to remember that. |

| ~ Episode order: The episodes are all messed up! Episode 1 was really something like episode 20. Something like that. They just finally played episode 7. Pretty bad if you ask me. That was the painting one if you're wondering. This is the biggest dumb thing Nelvana did in my opinion. |

| ~ Tomoyo/ Madison: In the Japanese version, Tomoyo is a very sweet, caring girl. In English, Madison is kind of a brat. Why? Because Nelvana is stupid, in case you haven't figured that out yet. In the original, she never would have said anything like "whatever" to anybody, and she never would have said something smart-elic like "Don't wait for me, I'm only your best friend." It was something like that she said in the dub. |

| ~ The music: The English theme song is kind of stupid. They also changed all of the background music. I don't think there was anything wrong with the original bg music. Actually, it was much better. All of the Japanese songs are either cool, like Groovy, pretty, like Tooi Kono Machi de (In This Faraway Town), catchy, like Yorokobi no Kyaroru (Carol of Joy), or it makes me feel bubbly, like Picnic. At first, I thought the English theme was catchy, but then I heard the Japanese music. By the way, if you want to see the words to some of it, you can find it in my lyrics section!^^ |

| ~ "The radio tower": In Sakura's dreams, the tower across from which she's standing is known as "the radio tower" in the dub. Why do they call it that? I don't know, it's Tokyo Tower. I think they just don't want people to know it takes place in Japan. Or maybe they don't know what it is... lol. |

| I used to like CardCaptors. I bet you've guessed that I don't anymore. I don't like Nelvana either. I recently got a subbed tape of Japanese episodes 1-4. I watched it, and it was very cute. Three of the episodes I had never seen before, because they were never dubbed. Episode three was the one where Yukito and Sakura go to the aquarium. Wasn't that much later in the English version? I don't doubt it. I hope, if you like the English version, that this has helped you to become interested in the original. No one's really bratty, and the voices are cute. I hope this page helps. |
