Bright and Early Monday morning, Peter Caine rolled out of bed and dragged himself down the stairs and into the kitchen. His mom and dad were already seated at the kitchen table.
"Honey, don't be so nervous. it won't be that bad." Annie said. Peter shook his head in confusion. He didn't know how she always knew exactly what he was feeling.
Breakfast usually helped Peter. Sitting around the table with his foster family gave him a sense of security that usually lasted him through a day but today, his chi would not be calmed.

The building was large and imposing. Or at least to Peter it was. Many students were already filing in the doors. Pushing his way through the crowds, he found his room and chose a seat in the back corner. Another student sat down next to him.
Peter tried to ignore him but the other man appeared as nervous as he was. His father had always taught him to help those in need. So, very begrudgingly, Peter engaged the man in conversation.
"Peter Caine." he offered.
The man shook his hand.
"Bill Eagleton."
Before any more could be said, a tall broad shouldered man with jet black hair walked in.
"Good morning Cadets. Welcome to the Police Acadamey. I will be your instructor for this class...."
He droned on and on about procedures and policies and the way life was going to be from now on. Peter and Bill exchanged glances. This was what they had dreamed about. Bill wanted to put people in their places, Peter wanted to aid those in need. The next words out of the instructor's mouths brought the same reactions from the two men.
"This, gentlemen, is a gun. If you fire it...it can kill."
Peter knew that with those words, their lives had forever changed.
