My Compaq has been through so much.
It's been a test bed, sat around needing a power supply for months,
been stripped, cannabalized. And NOW,,, It's the center point of my system...
It now runs Windows 2000 Advanced Server, hosts my websites, not this one,
my mail server, ftp server and print server...
Has more security programs than you can shake a stick at, and acts as a firewall
for my workstation.. It still has an Acer 8X cd-rom, but the Compaq/Philips cd-r is back in place,
the 3gig Fugitsu HD is for back ups, and a 40gig WD is for the OS
and server, it's still clocked at 550mhz and has a K7 CPU fan, They Actualy fit,
and is almost as loud as my workstation fan. The DVD that came with it is in my current system... Now the specs on that...
  • Giga-Byte 7ZX-(1) motherboard w/ ff beta bios.
  • 700mhz Thunderbird, clocked at 805mhz w/ 1.82 core voltage.
  • Promise Ultra100 controller card, modified to Fast Trak 100.
  • WD 15.3gig ATA66 7200rpm drive, on motherboard IDE0.
  • WD 30gig ATA100 drive, on Promise.
  • WD 30gig ATA100 drive, on Promise.
  • Compaq DVD, w/2.4firmware, on Motherboard IDE0.
  • TDK Velocity 24x CD-RW on IDE1.
  • Teac floppy disc "A" drive.
  • 382megs cas2 ram. Run at Cas3 To support faster bus
I bought the Promise card for more IDE channels and the option to upgrade to ATA100 later. I have each device on seperate channels for Quicker data tranfer. The DVD-rom and the CD-RW are on seperate channels for the same reason, and so I can copy on the fly. I'm back to WinXp,,, ack. I needed the multi-user feature. My Partitions are as follows:
Drive Size Type Use details
C:\ 6.41gigs simple, disk1 System
D:\ 55.9gigs raid0 Raid
E:\ Not used XXX XXX
Q:\ 7.89gigs simple, disk1 Backup hidden
X:\ not used simple, 1disk XXX
My 10.2gig WD gave up, So two ATA100's went in. On the positive side hardware based raid seemed to free up my processor for more important things. Now for the boring details... Well that's pretty much it... Just a Basic System... Oh I am waiting for the prices of those 1.33gig Thunderbirds to drop one more time, And then a dual T-bird motherboard, more ram, oh that TDK Velocity, your not really reading this are you?!?...
