Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

Maroon 5 & Lisa - Priceless

It's been more than a few years since we've had new music from Maroon 5. But the Southern California Pop/Rock band is back with the type of breezy, light, and fun music we've come to expect from them since we were first introduced to them 22 years ago. Given what's happening overall on the mainstream Pop music scene, it's not surprise that "Priceless" hasn't been a big hit so far, but it's been a breath of fresh air and also a nice familiar sound to cling to amidst an overall musical trend that doesn't particularly excite me. We'll see just how much farther this flirty song goes!

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

Leon Thomas - Not Fair

Though it didn't make an appearance on this chart, Leon Thomas has been making a name for himself over the past few months with his breakthrough single, "Mutt." "Not Fair" is the follow up single and the seductive slow jam has been growing on me ever since I first heard it a few weeks ago.

Blast From The Past:

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 1975. That year, "Born To Run" was released as the first single and title track from Bruce Springsteen's third album. It was not only the album's biggest charting success, it was the first song by Springsteen to appear on any chart. In a music catalog and singles discography full of memorable songs and timeless anthems, there's an argument to be made that "Born To Run" might be his most memorable and also his signature. It's certainly one heck of a karaoke classic! Springsteen wrote it and co-produced it with Mike Appel, who he worked with frequently early on in his career. He's said that he woke up in the middle of the night in 1973 with the phrase "born to run" and that was the earliest stages of an idea that spawned the later full song. Written in the first person, it's a love letter to someone who the hot rod-riding protagonist seems to possess the passion to love, but not the patience. It should be noted that Springsteen has also said that it's much simpler than a love story at its core: getting out of his hometown, Freehold, New Jersey. He even references the town's main road, Highway 9, in the first verse. When it was released, it got to a peak of #25 peak in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart but has become much-beloved over the years. As just one example, when Rolling Stone magazine updated their list of the "500 Greatest Songs Of All Time" in 2020, it placed at #27. Times are tough right now and it's a song like "Born To Run" that pulls me out of the mess that the world is right now...even if it's only for four and a half minutes.
