Hot Track Of The Week:

This is a song currently in the Top 50 that I'll feature each week.

Benson Boone - Mr. Electric Blue

When Benson Boone's album dropped a few months ago, "Mr. Electric Blue" was one of the songs that caught my ear. I even had it on my Next In Line list over the summer but it didn't make the Top 50...until a few weeks ago when it started getting attention as the album's official third single. The uptempo number is a certified earwrom that will surely have anyone singing or humming its tune all day after one listen. It's been a favorite of mine for a while and continues to move upward.

Spotlight Song Of The Week:

This is a song from the Next In Line List that may be making a debut sometime within the next few weeks.

Ciara featuring Moliy & Oxlade - Nice N' Sweet

It's perhaps a crime that one of the most underrated artists of 2025 has been Ciara. Although a couple of the songs from her eighth and most recent album, CiCi, have gotten some attention within the R&B genre, most of the songs she's released - eight, to be exact - have gone mostly unnoticed. The uptempo jam "Nice N' Sweet" finds her tapping into the Afrobeats sound and has been interested in hearing it more often. We'll see if it eventually makes it onto the Top 50.

Blast From The Past:

Ben E. King - Stand By Me

This week's Blast From The Past takes us back to 1961. That year, "Stand By Me" was released from Don't Play That Song, the third solo album by Soul crooner, Ben E. King. King had gotten his big break three years earlier when he was asked to join the lineup of The Drifters when that group's management had fired all of the previous members. In fact, King was a member of The Drifters when they released some of their biggest hits and most well-known songs such as "This Magic Moment," "There Goes My Baby," and what is perhaps their signature song, "Save The Last Dance." Due to disputes with management, King only ended up being retained to record songs in the studio. When the group would perform live or on TV, another singer would lip sync to King's recorded voice. By 1960, King decided to try his hand on his own. Written by King along with legendary songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, before he'd departed The Drifters, "Stand By Me" was his second big hit as a solo artist. King was reportedly inspired to rework the 1905 Gospel song of the same name by Charles Albert Tindley which itself was inspired by Psalm 46 of The Bible. In the end, The Drifters rejected the song and roughly a year later, after recording sessions had ended for a previous King album release, producers Stoller and Leiber urged King to record "Stand By Me." Not only did it go on to reach #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and top the R&B chart, it has gone on to be one of the most beloved songs of the Rock N Roll era. In 1986 it was featured in and included on the soundtrack to the movie Stand By Me, and got so much attention from its placement in the film that it was re-released. This time around, it reached the Top 10 in nearly a dozen countries, topping the chart in Canada, Ireland, and the U.K. In the U.S., it didn't quite match its #4 peak from 1961 but instead got to #9. It's long been a favorite of mine and its one of just a few songs that I can sing from beginning to end from memory without any prompting and without the song playing simultaneously. It's truly a classic and easily one of my favorite songs of all time, hands down.
