COATS OF THE 18th CENTURY

C13 Regimentals or uniform coats as worn by Marlborough's Armies and his era. This is a plain coat with colored cuffs and skirt linings. (Many argue for huge multifold skirts. I do not believe private's coats followed this pattern, but had narrower semicircular skirts.) State country, regiment, and branch of service.

C16 1680 through 1730 Civilian dress coat. The difference from others is height of cuff. The wide skirts have not appeared yet. State color and cloth.

C14 Coat worn by the English in Jacobite Rebellions and during the French and Indian War. This is the next change of consequence in uniform coats, now having turnbacks and split cuffs, as well as many having trim. State colors, ranks, branch, and country.

C17 Civilian Frock or English Hunting Frock with narrow skirts, simple cut, untrimmed, and looser. Probably one of the most common coats of the 18th Century. State color and cloth.

C65 1700's Banyan or housecoat, produced of silk-like materials, double breasted, strictly for men. (If ordering the turban H29, add $15.)

C21 Jacobite Rebellion Highlander's Jacket in available plaids with collar and Jacobite cuff. State desired base color in plaids.

C58 1720 - 1760's Civilian Dress Coat with voluminous skirts. State color, era, and cloth.

C18 1730 - 1780 Commoner's day coat, collared; the type common during the American Revolution. State color.

C15 1760 - 1780 Regimental. The most common military coat of the American Revolution (not the super tight, but as ordered by General George Washington.) State color combination.

C20 1650 through 1800's Workman's or Laborer's Coatee with collar optional. Single breasted, mariner's cuff, turn back cuff, or with seamed buttons. State color, period, cuffs, and cloth.

C22 The above jacket (C20) produced in tartan. State tartan. (If you wish to have the coat cut on the diagonal, we need three (3) yards; on the straight 2-1/4 yards, if the cloth is over 44 inches wide on the diagonal half-width -- we need 5 yards.)

C61 Late 1740's - late 1780's Double breasted Civilian Coat. State color.

C23 French and Indian War Light Infantry Jacket or Laborer's/Sailor's Jacket which is one step up from the sleeved waistcoat. Differs from C#20 in that it has no folds in skirt; essentially, a weskit with coat sleeves attached. For military, state colors of body and cuffs.

C27 French and Indian War Royal Highlander's Jacket, blue or buff cuff and collar. The buff collar is sewn to the completed coat, the blue collar is part of the coat. Regimental lacing, like the collars, make its appearance during this period. The buff cuff coat could be found with white lacing, the blues most probably all had regimental lacing. The same is true for the numbered buttons. State color.

C70 1760 - 1789 British Service Musician's coat, fitted with regimental tape and reverse colors.

C24 Early 1700's - present Pea Jacket. Copied from originals with the exception that we have no access to the unclean wool originally used that made them waterproof. Only minor changes occurred during the centuries in cuffs, collar, pocket pattern, buttons, and lining. Usually in darker blues, greens, or browns. State color and era you wish the jacket to represent.

C25 1700 - 1750 Watchcoat as issued to soldier, sailors, and settlers alike. Single breasted, tall collar/cape, small shoulder cape. Issued in natural and blue. Sailors watchcoat plain, soldier's is caped. State color, era, and cloth.

C26 Late 18th Century Coachmen's Overcoat, multicaped version of the Greatcoat, Box coat, or Watchcoat. Quickly adopted by the fashionable. Double breasted. State color.
