Class Dinosauria

Includes all of the true dinosaurs.
Order Saurischia
(saur-isk-ee-ah)
The "lizard-hipped" dinosaurs. This does not refer to
dinosaurs be lizards, it refers to the sructure of the
plevis. These anscestors of birds (Theropods) are
from this group. The only Saurischians are
Theropods and Sauropods.
Order Ornithischia
(or-nih-thisk-ee-ah)
The "bird hipped" dinosaurs. Again, this does not refer
to the these dinosaurs being, or being related to birds.
In fact, quite the oposite. These dinosaurs are the
least related to birds. All dinosaurs belonging to
this goupd are herbivorous. Marginochephalians,
Thyreophorans, and Ornithopods are the only Ornithischians.
Therizinosaria
(there-eh-zeen-oh-sore-ee-ah)
These dinosaurs are of uncertain origin, and fosils from
this group are few and far between, although one dinosaur
from this group has feathers, making the placement of these
animals even more dificult.
Suborder Theropoda
(there-oh-poh-da)
All dinosaurs from this group are all carnivorous, or
omnivorous. Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor are both
Theropods.
Suborder Sauropoda
(sore-oh-pode-ah)
All dinosaurs from this group are herbivorous. Almost all
walk on four legs, although the earlier and more primitive
Sauropods walked on two or four legs. Apatosaurus and
Brachiosaurus are both Sauropods.
Marginocephalia
(marge-in-oh-sef-A-lee-ah)
All dinosaurs of this group are herbivorous. Most
Marginocephalians walk on four legs, but the some of the
Marginocephalians walked on either two or four legs.
Triceratops and Pachycephalosaurus are
Marginocephalians.
Thyreophoria
(thigh-ree-oh-for-ah)
All dinosaurs of this group are armore plated herbivores.
All walk on four legs, and have bony amore of some kind.
Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus are both Thyreophorans.
Ornithopoda
(orn-ith-oh-pode-ah)
All dinosaurs of this group are herbivores. Ornithopods
could walk on either two or four legs, but the earlier
and more primitive. Parasaurolophus, and Edmontosaurus are
Ornithopods.
