Obit: Etta Ruth Payne - 1911-2000

BALTIMORE - Etta Ruth Starks Payne, 88, formerly of Mabscott, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Heritage Nursing Home, Dundalk, Md., following an apparent heart attack. She was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Cohutta, Ga.

Mrs. Payne lived most of her life in Mabscott until she moved to Baltimore to be near her family. For many years she worked as an admissions clerk for Beckley Hospital. She loved working in the medical profession. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was very proud of her family and loved to display their photographs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee L. Payne.

Survivors include her only daughter, Margaret Honaker of Maryland; a brother, Clyde Starks of West Virginia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Dundalk Presbyterian Church.

Etta Ruth Starks was the granddaughter of William P. and Ruth Parker Starks of Cohutta, Whitfield County, Georgia. Her father was Walter Starks who is buried in Concord Cemetery, Whitfield County, Georgia along with his parents. Her mother was Elisabeth Bennett Starks.
