LOST IN THE VERSE BARRENS

Entangled with commitment
to academic careers
by aiding and abetting
publication of drivel
affected as poetry,
no work of genius can
embarrass that smug
assumption of power
when the tenured elite
arrange subservience
to their jealous snub
of a real poet's labor,
then issue limited editions
of condensed prosaisms
in artsy covered booklets,
testing if any famished souls
would pay to unearth
yet another dead zone
for the void of mind
to adore the grand cartel
of mediocrity.
