As a Career Marine, I served 16 years of my 25 years in Marine Observation Squadron - Two (VMO-2).(73-80), (82-84)and (88-91). This was a Marine Squadron located primarily at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Ca. However, in times of National crisis, this squadron deployed as necessary to answer the call. Additionally, the Squadron supported a unit deployment program (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan from 1977-1993. This UDP provided half the necessary manpower for the HAMS-36 (later the MALS-36) Flight Section. VMO-1 personnel provided the other half. During 1988, VMO-1 heavily involved in a continuous South Eastern Operation, discontinued their support of the flight section and VMO-2 assumed responsibility for providing all manpower required for this UPD.

VMO-2's History can be found at my page VMO-2's history and Cherry Deuce site; this is another great WEB Site.

VMO stands for Fixed Wing (V) Marine (M) Observation (O). Here are VMO-2's official and semi-official Logos or Insignias for the period 1943-1993.
