Preemie Angel Shell Sweater

Materials:

Red Heart Soft Baby yarn, 3 ply

E crochet hook

(Note: Using larger hook and thicker yarn makes larger sweater)

Yoke

Row 1: Ch 34. Dc in 3rd ch from hk, dc in next 4 sts, shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) (corner made) in next st, dc in next 4 sts, shell in next st, dc in next 10 sts, shell in next st, dc in next 4 sts, shell in next st, dc in next 5 sts. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Dc in each dc to ch 1 space, *shell in ch 1 space, dc in each dc to ch 1 sp, repeat from * to end of row. Ch 2, turn.

Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Row 2. Ch 2, turn.

Row 5: (Sleeve Row) Dc in each dc to ch 1 space, 1 dc in ch 1 space, skip all dc's to next ch 1 space, dc into ch 1 space. Dc in each dc to next ch 1 space, dc in next ch 1 space, skip all dc?s to next ch 1 space, dc in next ch 1 space. Dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 2, turn.

Row 6: Dc in each dc. Ch 4, turn.

Row 7: Place dc in 3rd dc of previous row. Ch 1, dc in same st. *Skip 2 dc, V-st (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc. Repeat from * to last 3 sts. V-st , sk 1 dc, dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 8: Shell st in each V-st across. Dc into ch sp of previous row. Ch 3, turn.

Row 9 - 15 : Shell in center of each shell across. Dc into ch sp of previous row. Ch 3, turn.

Row 16: 5 dc in center of each shell, sc in space between shells, across. End off, work in loose end.

Sleeve:

Row 1: Back of sweater facing you, join with sl st into the dc after joining. Ch 2 dc in same st. Dc in each st around. Dc in side of dc of Row 5, dc in side of next dc of Row 5, join.

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, dc in each dc around. Join.

Rows 3 thru 8: Dc in each dc around. Join.

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in same st. Sc in each st around. Join, fasten off. Work in loose ends.

Repeat from other sleeve, starting in front shell.

Neck Edge

Ch 46, sc around neck edge, ch 46, end off. Trim off ends to match. Tie into bow.

Flower: Ch 9, sc in first ch, ch 8, sc in first sc, repeat for a total of 6 petals. End off. Trim ends. Sew to sweater on yoke area with button in center of crocheted flower.

Boy Version:

Yoke

Rows 1 thru 6: Continue as same as above. On Row 6, ch 2 instead of ch 4, turn.

Row 7: Dc in first dc, *sk 2 sts, shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st, sk 2 sts, V-st (dc, ch1, dc) in next st. Repeat from * 3 times. Sk 2 sts, shell in next st, sk 2 sts, shell in next st, * sk 2 sts, V-st in next st, sk 2 sts, shell in next st. Repeat from * to end of row. Place dc in last st. (You will have 2 shells together in back) Ch 2, turn. (10 shells/8 V-sts)

Row 8: Dc in first st, shell in center of previous shell, V-st in center of previous V-st. (Shells in center of all shells, V-st in center of all V-sts) Repeat pattern across. Dc in last dc. Ch 2, turn.

Rows 9 thru 15: Repeat Row 8. At end of Row 15, ch 4, turn.

Row 16: Sc in center of shell, *ch 4, sc in center of V-st, ch 4, sc in center of shell. Repeat from * across. In last shell, ch 1, dc in last st. End off. Work in loose ends.

Repeat Neck Edge as above.
