HISTORY OF THE FLOOR FAMILY
as told by Basil N. Floor (Floor Code: 71)
Floor Family Reunion August 1993

Floor Codes are in parentheses ()

My name is Basil N. Floor, formerly Vasilion N. Flogeras.  I immigrated to the United States February 13, 1951.  Following is the history of my family.

My great-grandfather immigrated to the village Megalo Bontia from the village Kravara in the province of Roumele, located in the very rocky mountains of Agrafa.  This is how the Flogeras family got the nickname "Kravarites".  My great-grandfather knew forty different trades.  He even used to make gunpowder.

His wife was from the village of Lapanagous, Kalavrita. They had six boys and three girls.  Four of the boys and all of the girls immigrated to the Patras area where they established mills for grinding flour.  My grandfather, Efthimios, and his brother Andreas stayed in Megalo Bontia.

My grandfather married Hariklia Panagopoulou from Flampoura, Kalavrita.  They also had nine children - six boys and three girls.  Their names were Vasilios (1), Georgios (2), Panagiotan (3), Dimitrios (4), Neoklis (5), Maria (6), Nikolaos (7), Aglaia (8), and Elias (9).

Vasilios (1) married Asimo Ntzelipi (1.1) from Manesi, Kalavrita.  They had one boy named Andreas (Andy) (11).

Georgios (2) married Eleni Tciropoulos (2.1) from Rogous, Kalavrita.  They had three sons and one daughter, Kostas (Gus) (21), Andreas (Andy) (22), Hariklia (Harriet) (23) and Efthemios (Tom) (24).

Panagiotan (3) married Konstantine Gianipoulon (3.1) from Mikro Bontia, Kalavrita.  They had one daughter, Gianoula (31).

Dimitrios (4) married Eleni Mamasi from Mitiloglini, Patras.  They had two boys and two girls, Georgios (44), Efthemios (4?), Marian (4?) and Ageliki (4?).

Neoklis (5) married Ekaterinin (Kati) Gianikopoulou (5.1) from Mezeika, Kalavrita.  They had four boys and four girls, Vasilios (Bill) 51, Georgios (George) (52), Eustathios (Steve) (53), Ageliki (Angie) (54), Eleni (Helen) (55), Theodora (Lola) (56), Efthimia (Effie) (57), and Dimitrios (Jim) (58).

Maria (6) married Konstantine Tragotsalon (6.1) from Megalo Bontia, Kalavrita.  They had one boy and two girls, Alexios (6?), Diamanto (6?), and Arete (6?).

Nikolaos (7) married Alexandra Grami (7.1) from Megalo Bontia, Kalavrita.  They had two boys and four girls, Vasilios (Basil) (71), Georgios (George) (72), Hariklia (73),  Evangelian (74), Gianoula (75), and Despina (76).

Aglaia (8) married Athanasion Tragotsalon (8.1) from Megalo Bontia, Kalvrita.  They had three boys and two girls, Nikolaos (8?), Panagiotis (8?), Dimitrios (8?), Konstantina (8?), and Vasilio (8?).

Elias (9) married Bertha Warr-Reys (9.1).  They had two sons, Eoanis (John) (91) and Filipa (Phillip) (92).

Four of the brothers, Dimitrios, Neoklis, Georgios, and Elias, along with their nephew Andreas immigrated to the United States.  They had their name changed from "Flogeras" to "Floor".

HOW THE FLOOR FAMILY CAME TO SALT LAKE CITY, UT

Athanasios Ntzelipis was headed to Tonopa, Nevada along with some other Greek friends from Manesi, Greece.  He stayed in Salt Lake City and found a job at Kennecott Copper, formerly Utah Copper.  The rest of his friends went on to Nevada.

He was the brother of my aunt Asimos (1.1), wife of my uncle Vasilios (1).  He came to Salt Lake City about 1900 and worked for Utah Copper and he brought over my uncle Neoklis (5).

Around 1912, Uncle Neoklis (5) brought over his three brothers, Georgios (2), Elias (9), and Dimitrios (4); his nephew Andreas (11); and his parents.  His mother passed away and is buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  His father went back to Greece.  Athanasios and Dimitrios (4) also went back to Greece.

In 1951, Uncle Neoklis (5) brought me over.

Our last name was changed from "Flogeras" to "Floor".  The first names also change.  Neoklis became "Nick", Georgios to "George", Dimitrios to "Jim", Elias to "Louis", Andreas to "Andy", and Vasiliou to "Basil".

POSTSCRIPT BY WILLIAM ANDREW FLOOR (111)
