Who is Frank Schloss Anyway?

We are a small family association consisting of the descendants of two immigrants from Germany: Grete (Schloss) Frank and her younger brother, Otto Schloss. We meet together at least once a year to celebrate our common ancestry and maintain our family ties. We also have an interest in compiling and sharing information about our common history and genealogy. This site is designed to help us coordinate the collection and sharing of that information.

Many of us tend to think of ourselves as being either "Frank" or "Schloss", according to our family surnames. But such names are misleading and tend to obscure that fact that each of us are actually descendants of Schloss siblings. Grete was born in 1893 and Otto in 1902. Three other children were born into that Schloss family between Grete and Otto. However, two died in infancy, and the third died at age 24. Grete married Richard Fick, who later changed the family name to Frank. Otto married Rosa (Rösi) Mundwiler.

Therefore, this web site will present most of its historical and genealogical data in three areas: Schloss, Frank, and Mundwiler. The older Schloss Genealogy and history is directly relevant to all of us, while the Frank and Mundwiler sections are directly applicable to half of us, but of interest to all.

The historical information will be added to over time as it is collected and compiled. The genealogy is already quite extensive, but we hope to extend it yet further. To avoid duplication of effort and reduce errors, we encourage all family members to use and contribute to this common genealogy database. The pedigree information posted on this site begins with Grete and Otto and extends backward as far as is known. Family members who wish to obtain a copy of the data for their own use, should contact Ray Kuehne. We have not yet posted comparable data about the descendants of Grete and Otto until we resolve certain privacy/security questions. However, that information is also available from Ray.

Most of the genealogy data was compiled by Wayne Kuehne before he left for a mission in Germany in July 1998. The Mundwiler genealogy was compiled in electronic format by Bret Saxey, using records in the possession of Otto Schloss. We believe this database is more up-to-date than that found in the Ancestral File or the IGI (although the Family History Library now indicates that the IGI is nearly complete through about 95% of ordinances performed). Therefore, family members should check here first before submitting any of these names for temple ordinances. It is our goal to keep one common database for this extended family in order to avoid duplication of research efforts and of temple ordinances.

We plan to post GEDCOM versions of this data in the future. In the meantime, if you wish to have a copy of the database, or any part thereof, let Ray Kuehne know. He can provide it in GEDCOM, PAF, or Legacy format.

We expect to receive inquires from people who are attempting to connect their lineage to our pedigree. Because we are entirely a volunteer effort, we ask for your patience in receiving a reply or seeing a change reflected on this site. In some cases, a connection may possible but we ask that you be very specific by providing names, dates, and place information to support your queries.
