History:
The substance known as Gum Arabic was
obtained from the acacia tree, and was prized by the ancient Egyptians. The
tannic acid that was derived from acacia nuts was used by the ancient Egyptians
to heal burns.
Uses:
Acacia has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect. Gum
Arabic, derived from the acacia tree, is often mixed with boiling water to form
a mucilage. It can provide a soothing coating to the digestive tract, especially in
cases of gastritis and ulcers.
Cautions:
When used as an external wash, tannic acid can stain the skin
Always:
Be sure of the identity of any plant before you use it. If a preparation makes you sick or gives you a rash, don't use it, and throw it away! If your condition does not improve, see your doctor. Be sure to let your physician know EVERYTHING that you are taking!
