Acacia

History:

The substance known as Gum Arabic was obtained from the acacia tree, and was prized by the ancient Egyptians. The tannic acid that was derived from acacia nuts was used by the ancient Egyptians to heal burns.

Uses:

Acacia has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect. Gum Arabic, derived from the acacia tree, is often mixed with boiling water to form a mucilage. It can provide a soothing coating  to the digestive tract, especially in cases of gastritis and ulcers.

Cautions:

When used as an external wash,  tannic acid can stain the skin

Always:

Be sure of the identity of any plant before you use it. If a preparation makes you sick or gives you a rash, don't use it, and throw it away! If your condition does not improve, see your doctor. Be sure to let your physician know  EVERYTHING that you are taking!
