Okay, if you want to make maps for Counter-Strike first thing you need to do is have a pragram to make it. If you don't have Worldcraft v3.4 you can get it here.
Once you have it downloaded and open you have to set it up to be able to make maps. When you first open it it should come up with the "Configure Valve Hammer Editor on its own but if it doesn't go to Tools | Options. Once there go to the "Game Configurations" tab. Ok, first thing it says is game configuration. Clcik "EDIT" and type in Counter-Strike. Next, it says that it needs an fdg. Since we're setting up hammer for Counter-Strike maps right now you need to click "ADD" and browse to the Valve Hammer Editor folder. In it it there should be a folder called fdg. Click on that, then go into the folder inside of that called counter-strike then click on the halflife-cs.fdg. Next, there is "texture Format" and "Map Type", leave those how they are. After that go to the "Default PointEntity Class" and the "Default SolidEntity Class". These are what something will be for those entity classes when you first create it. I normally put the PointEntity as light and the SolidEntity as func_wall because those are the entitys I use the most. You can put them on whichever ones you want though depending on what you use the most in mapping. Next is the "Game Executable Directory". Here you need to put your Counter-Strike directory.(for ex mine is C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike) The next one we can leave blank. After that is Game Directory. Here put were your cs maps are stored. This will tell hammer to put your compiled maps into it so when u get done compiling it will open the map right.(mine for ex is C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike\maps) Ok, the last thing on the tab. RMF directory. This is where hammer is going to put and upload maps you make in their RMF form. The RMF form of map is the one that can be edited and built on. It's the file that your map is before it is compiled for CS playing. Browse to the Valve Hammer Editor and then maps.(mine looks like this: C:\Program Files\Valve Hammer Editor\maps) When you are done hit "Apply" to save it. And the tab should now look something like this:
Then, when you are done with that go to the "Build Programs" tab. At the top it should already say Counter-Strike for the Configuration. Below that is "Game Executable" here you put the exe (application for opening) counter-strike. It is in the Counter-Strike folder. It looks like this- cstrike.exe. After that is "CSG executable" to put this in browse to Valve Hammer Editor and go into tools, then click on the one called "qcsg". Next, do the same thing for the "BSP executable" but click the "qbsp". Then same for the VIS and RAD. And now the last one. "place compiled maps in this directory before running game", I think it's self explainatory. Here put the cstrike\maps folder, where ever it may be on your computer. Then hit a"Apply" to save it. The tab should now look something like this:
Once this is done the next thing to do is go to the "Textures" tab. When you get there click on "ADD WAD" then browse for the hl.wad which is in the half-life\valve folder. This wad has lots of textures for you to use. The hl.wad is a must have to make most maps if you want it to have any textures besides AAATRIGGER. Another wad you can use is the cstrike.wad, its in the Counter-Strike\cstrike folder. It doesn't have as many as the hl.wad but its got some good ones too. And yet another good base wad is the decals.wad also found in the Counter-Strike\cstrike folder. It has letters and other good stuff. When your making maps you can take one of these out or use any other wads too. Although i'd keep the hl.wad in at all times it's one of the main wads people use for textures. When your done hit "Apply" or if that isnt an Option hit "Ok" to save it. Remember though, you can change it at anytime.
Congratulations!!! You've got Worldcraft set up and ready
to make maps!
