TRIPS TAKEN DURING THE LIFETIME OF F. L. MANWILL

The first car trip was a week spent in the Boise Valley in 1924. The 2nd trip we spent a week in Yellowstone Park. This was in 1925. The 3rd trip was spent in Bear Valley in the Sawtooth Mountains in 1925 also. The next trip we took was to Canada by way of Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington in 1930. This was a two week trip. In 1931, we spent our vacation in the Sawtooth Mountains, camping and fishing. We were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Hill. The next year we took a lovely trip down through the southern Utah Parks, over to Pheonix, down into Mexico and up through California to Eugene, Oregon, then east to Boise and home. In 1933 we took a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There we visited the George Goe family. While there we visited Jenny's Lake and saw the Teton Peaks. While we were there we saw where there had been a terrific landslide. In 1934, we visited Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. We were accompanied by our neice Rosetta Flavel. In 1936 at the close of Don's school year at the Idaho Southern Branch at Pocatello, we picked Don up and took a trip to New York City, going by way of Chicago, Kirtland, Ohio, Niagra Falls, and coming back via Washington D.C., Missouri, and Denver Colorado. This was a three week trip. In 1937 we went to California via Wells, Nevada, Reno, Sacramento, Stockton, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Lancaster, and home via Boulder Dam and Salt Lake City. In 1938 we spent two weeks with our son Don in Portland, Oregon while he was serving as a missionary in the Northwestern States. In 1939 we again visited Don in his mission field. He was located at Kalispell, Montana. We picked him up there and spent a week touring the Canadian Rockies and working in the Cardston Temple. We went as far north as Lake Louise, which was a very beautiful sight. In 1940, we made a trip to Yellowstone Park via Pocatello, Soda Springs, Jackson Hole and through the south entrance and spent a week. In 1942, having our oldest daughter, Lois, in the mission field in the Eastern States, we took a trip east, via South Dakota, Chicago, Philadelphia, having stopped at many points of interest of the early Mormons. We spent 2 weeks. In June 1944, my wife and I left by train and visited Don at Camp Kohler just out of Sacramento, California. We spent 10 days there with him, staying on the base. June 1947 found my wife and I accompanying our daughter Lois and her husband John on a trip via Yellowstone Park, Bozeman, Helena, Butte, and Missoula, Montana, and on to Sandpoint, Idaho and home via Boise. In November 1952, we accompanied Ila and her husband Grayson, also Grayson's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gurr on a trip east. We went via Detroit, up into Canada, as far a Toronto where Grayson had spent two years on a mission. back via Niagra Falls, Elmyra, New York, Gettysberg, Penn., to Washington D.C., where we had spent Thanksgiving with our daughter Lois Larsen and husband John. We came home via West Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. We were gone nearly a month. In January 1949, we went to Boise and visited Don a few days, then went west through Oregon to Medford and spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Hill; then went south into California via Marysvale, Sacramento, Stockton, San Francisco, Modesto, Bakersfield, Los Angeles, San Diego and home via San Bernardino, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. We were gone 2 1/2 months.

DIARY OF THE TRIP OF F. L. MANWILL AND FAMILY

June 8, 1934. We left Richfield about 8:15 AM and arrived at Salt Lake at 4:30 that evening. June 9. Spent the day visiting Aunt Joyce. Lois got her permanent. June 10. We attended the morning conference. In the afternoon we went to Saltaire, Magna, and visited Leland Giles and family. June 11. Went to Spanish Fork that afternoon. Lois and Rosetta went to a show. June 12. We attended the home coming exercises at Benjamin, and went to a dance at Arrow Head. June 13. We went out to Utah Lake at the point of the mountain. The lake was very low. We estimated that the level was fifteen feet below the high water level. Visited relatives and friends, Aunt Mint, Ora Moore, Jane and Ed Williams June 14. We visited Jen Stuart and family, and then had supper at Aunt Mary Ann's. June 15. We left Spanish Fork at 10:00 AM and camped at Moab, Utah at 7:00 PM. June 16. We arrived at Mesa Verde National Park about 7:00 PM. While entering the park we were on a mountain where we could see into four states, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. After supper, we went to look at the Spruce Tree House, one of the ancient Cliff Dwellings. Attended the camp lecture given by the guides. June 17. We spent all the fore noon and part of the afternoon looking at the cliff dwellings. We saw, Sun Temple, Square Tower House, Cliff Palace, and Balcony House. Left at 4:00 PM for Denver and camped at Durango. June 18. We travelled over the million dollar highway from the Red Mountains to Ouray. We went over two, eleven thousand foot passes from Silverton to Ouray and camped a few miles out of Gunnison. June 19. Went over Monarch Pass (11, 386 ft. ). Camped at Colorado Springs. June 20. Went on to Denver. We visited the park in the afternoon and stayed with Joe Losser that night. June 21. Stayed at Denver that day and saw points of interest. Saw our first game of softball. Spent the night at Losser's. June 22. Left Denver for Salt Lake. Camped at Table Rock, Wyoming. June 23. Left camp at Table Rock and went through Provo Canyon to Spanish. June 24. In the afternoon we went to visit Aunt Adar and relations. June 25. Left for Salt Lake at noon. Stayed with Aunt Joyce Dean. Went to see Uncle Lo Manwill. June 26. Attended to business in town. Saw a show. June 27. Started for home at 8:00 AM. Arrived at 5:00 PM.
