1905-1906 Among the memoirs and souvenirs of Mrs. Thomas Leslie.(Hazel Ludlow) Richardson is a faded and yellowed program, dated September, 1906; which names C. C. Maynard, Principal; George A. Hone, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Walter Ludlow, Secretary; E. D. Hawkins, Treasurer; A. C. Nelson, Utah State Superintendent; Lars E. Eggertson, Utah County Superintendent. In addition, an item of interest noted that school closed on April 26, 1907.. which is approximately a month earlier than closure now. The probable reason for an early closure was that farming was the principal occupation, and the students were needed on the farms for planting and ditch cleaning. (In a later register this reason for early closing was validated). The graduating class on May 11, 1906, included Pearl Ludlow, Lois Mace, Priscilia Ludlow, Nellie Hawkins, Emily Mace, Monroe Bingham, Edward Johnson, Henry Lindstrom, Farrin Manwill, Ira Morrison, James Hand, Edward Fetnsten, Earl Wall, Clyde Stewart and Henry Fernsten. From the school register, with some questions, the following items of interest: 1-Although school closed early this year, the class graduation exercises were not held until May 11, 1906(?). 2-F. L. Hickman, brother to George Francis, is listed as a Teacher with Flora Johnson, Lulu R. Stewart and Chloe Palmer as Teachers conducting the exercises of graduation. The ages of the students were not given on the graduating lists--one of the little omissions from the registers that disappointed the researcher considerably. From otherwise outstanding Teachers and Administrators, it was found many were neglectful in their duties of record keeping: Failed to write their names on registers, used no dates, no year, no indication of whether promoted, etc. Isaac Hansen, grantor, on June 8, 1905, deeded to the Benjamin School District 1/4 acre of land. In addition, Eunice L. Rogers Morrison deeded to the Benjamin School .15 acres adjoining that by Isaac Hansen. (Note, 19 years later before there was enough playground for a baseball field). Lavinia Bingham Pickeral adds from her mother's souvenirs a program of the 1906 graduating class: Class Song By graduates Invocation Clyde Stewart Address of Welcome Ira Morrison Cornet Solo James Hand Recitation Edward Fernsten Solo Lois Mace Oration Edward Johnson Duet Pearl Ludlow, Ferrin Manwell Dialogue Priscilla Ludlow, Ferrin Manwell Henry Fernsten, James Hand, Ed. He was in the process of writing a history of Benjamin when his home caught fire and burned down; of course, the manuscript burned also. However, it is our understanding he has recompiled and rewritten the book, and it will soon be ready for publication--to a limited distribution. Edward was a graduate also with this group, and is remembered--at least by the younger people of Benjamin--as the man who in his 81st year did hand and head stands on the Benjamin Ward Chapel lawns after Sunday School! Clyde Stewart lives in Payson, Utah, and is in a rest home there. Nellie Hawkins Snow lives in Chula Vista, California.
1906- 1907 The graduating class on May 3, 1907 included Joe Shepherd, Sterling Richardson, Glen Davis, Henry Lundell, Carl Lundell, Albert Richardson, Acel Richardson, Vern Wills, Edward Fernsten, Fay Mannel, Rose Thompson, Mildred Hone, Ruby Cahoon, Ida Wall, Sylvia Stewart, Viola Miller, Hazel Hawkins,
