The Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Anderson
of the Logan Fourth Ward was quietly observed Thursday at the family
home. A beautiful golden tablet was given Mr. and Mrs. Anderson by
their children and bears three beautiful verses.
Highly respected throughout the church and Logan city, Mr. and Mrs.
Anderson received many messages of congratulation. On November
18, 1885 they were married in the Logan Temple. Since then, they
have resided in the Logan Fourth Ward where they have reared a large
family of nine children.
Mr. Anderson has had a varied and extensive career. He is at present
the senior member in the Cache Stake High Council. He is president of
First National Bank and the oldest merchant now doing business in
Logan. He has served two L.D.S. missions in Sweden. Being first
called at the age of eighteen and again in 1925 when he was called to
preside over the Swedish Mission. His son, Melvin, left the same day
for a mission to Germany. Following his first mission he was called as
bishop of the Mendon Ward and later as bishop of the Logan Fourth
Ward. He was mayor of Logan from 1909 to 1911. He has been an
active temple worker for over ten years, but has been active in church
work for over fifty.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were born in Logan. He is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Anderson and she was Annie Eliason before
her marriage, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Eliason.
Mrs. Anderson has also been very active in church work; she has
been a temple worker for 27 years and has served in both the Primary
and Relief Society presidencies of the Fourth Ward.
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are all well known here for
their church and civic activities. Two, John and Joseph Anderson, are
associated in business with their father. Other children are Mrs. J. D.
Larsen of Salt Lake City; Mrs. G. W. Hickman and Mrs. S. Cline
Curtis of Berkeley, California; Geneva Anderson of Logan; Woodruff
Anderson of Springville, Utah; Melvin Anderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho;
and Merrill B. Anderson, who is now attending Harvard University.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have 19 grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
The following poem, printed on a gold background, was read and
presented to the parents by the children:
Golden wedding!
Fifty golden years
That cling like jewels
On a strand of love,
Recalling laughter, tears,
Or gentle hands that
Raised our hope above
Corroding fears.
Golden -wedding!
Fifty golden years,
Now reckoned by
The calendar of hearts.
Ah time, that sears
A pathway to the light
Where love eternal starts,
Eternally endears.
Golden wedding!
Fifty golden years—
Your years of-wealth
For mem'ry to retrieve
As twilight nears.
Our legacy—the dawn
Of faith to believe
In deathless years.
With all of our love:
