Chapter 3

By Chris/LucyHydeX
The Red Rat, 9:00 P.M. The next day.

Lucy Harris slid off her lace garters, sighing in the sheerest of agony and rolling her eyes at the mockery that was her life. "What am I doing to myself. First, I become a hooker, a creature whose sole pleasure is the excitement of others with no selfish reward. Then, I become "that other woman", seducing a successful man with my own ways." Lucy thought silently. It had been an hour since Lucy's last show, and it was a relief to put the day to rest. This was a cruel life she led, and now she had made it truly barbaric. "Lucy, it's time for the extra feature." an annoying, shrill, Germanic voice belted. "Oh God, not tonight. Please not tonight. I have no life left." She knew what she must do. She must visit him, the man who had set her dreams afire, lighting the blaze that was dormant for so long. This would be a bittersweet symphony of words; some would, indeed, be cruel, and some would be enticing. Nevertheless, Lucy knew that she MUST speak the truth; it is the least that dream of a man would do for her. Despite her cruel boss' cries for yet another show, she knew that this walk towards a different fate must occur now, if there is to be tomorrow in store for two very different creatures, lost, yet strangely, sweetly found when with each other. Lucy rushed out the door, forgetting the red shawl that Jekyll had given with his kind blessing, and spreading cold bits of wind from the dank outside world to the ugly, selfish place that was hers. She ran to the house to find that the door was left open. She thought it was odd and stepped inside. "Dr. Jekyll." She yelled but got no answer. She walked around the house, curious as to what she might find. She saw a flight of stairs heading down toward the basement. She started to walk down them and a chill ran down her spine as she did so. She came to a door and noticed the note Jekyll had left for John taped to the door. She had been learning to read so she knew what some of the letter said. She could read much of it but knew that it was not good. Frightened, she opened the door and entered the room. It was his lab. She slowly walked around, taking in everything she saw. She was scared yet someone intrigued by everything in the room. She came across his journal and skimmed through the pages. A look of shock fell across her face as she read of his experiment. Then she looked down and noticed the formula he had used. She picked up the serum and spotted the needle beside his journal. Strange thoughts began to enter her mind.
