What?
Deaf Experience Association, inc. is a Non-profit Organization (501(c)(3) pending) dedicated to the development of leadership and advocacy for the Deaf./Hard of Hearing Community. It was born from the frustration the Deaf./Hard of Hearing Community endures while trying to gain access to services in their preferred language (ASL, PSE, Oral, etc.).
Why?
Because Osceola County has over 11,080 Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals (according to 1995, State of Florida estimated prevalence of Hearing impairment), with no service center where to access services. DEAI works to reach this population and make services accessible to them.
How?
The philosophical premise of DEAI is empowerment of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing by the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. DEAI understands the only way to create an empowered Deaf/Hard of Hearing Community is by actively participating in our local communities, increasing our visibility, and enforcing cultural and linguistic standards of services provided to our members.
