I like Christmas.
I like it because
we will have a break from school
and it will be snowing out
and Miss Utena and I will make a snowman
and drink cocoa
and eat cookies
and I will get her something very wonderful for a Christmas gift.
(She doesn't want me to get her a gift.)
Then I will be content to decorate the Christmas tree with her
I will have the tree ready when she comes back to the dorm at the end of the day.
I'll already have the hard stuff done, like
and trimming the branches
stringing the lights
and then only fun stuff will be left, like
hanging up the ornaments.
(What ornaments?)
I have ornaments.
Old ones.
Pretty ones.
(But isn't there something else. . . ?)
I wish . . .
I wish
I don't like Christmas.
I hate the cold and the snow
that kills my roses
and the spiny pine trees
and the guady lights
But Miss Utena loves Christmas
and I will enjoy my Christmas with her
and we will hang up my old, pretty ornaments
on the Christmas tree
and I will decorate the dorm.
I will hang up scented pine garlands
and set pretty candles on the table
and a wreath on the door
and
some mistletoe.
I wish . . .
If I could just get her alone
(my one Christmas wish)
Under the mistletoe.
