Nephite on I-15

This is a classic action story. You may have already read it on the Home page. If not, here it is again:

"My mother told me that her friend's Aunt was driving down an isolated stretch of I-15 last week on her way to Nephi, Utah when she saw a lone man walking along the roadway. She was concerned because she hadn't seen any vehicles parked along the side of the road so she stopped to ask the man if he was in need of help. The man smiled and replied "No, just be sure and have your food storage ready by May 15th!" and turned to continue walking down the highway. After a second or two she began driving down the road again but when she looked in her rear-view mirror, the man was gone! She pulled over because she was so astonished. A few seconds later, a highway patrolman pulled up behind her and asked her if anything was wrong. She told him what had happened and he replied, "Lady, you are the fifth person to tell me that story today!"

This is a great story but it is utterly false. It supposedly occured in 1992 but the woman who supposedly experienced it has, as of yet, had no need for her food storage. Neither have I. I still hear this one with slight variations even today and it is still being told as though it happened yesterday. I will here reiterate that we should get our food storage together because 1- it is wise and 2- the prophets have counciled us to do so. Stories of Nephites being seen on I-15 should not move us to action more than the warnings of the modern prophets. Why would the Lord send a Nephite to warn us of something His prophets have already said?
