Brand New Day (A Promise to Myself)

Today,
as I wake with the sun on my face,
I'm going to smile.
And with childlike wonder,
I'm going to open my eyes
as if for the first time.

I'll pour myself
a tall glass of orange juice,
and as I bring the cup to my lips
my eyes will glow with
anticipation.
I'll feel that sweet cold
trickle all the way down my throat
and as it hits my empty stomach
I'll grin and think,
"It's good to be alive."

Today, I'll go outside.
And as I take in one sweet, deep breath,
I'm going to fill my body
with the essence of Spring...
and a brand new day.

And as the warm breeze
whistles through the trees
and plays with my hair,
I'll say a prayer of gratitude
and be thankful for all that I have.

I'll take off my shoes
and run barefoot through the cool grass.
And I'll make a promise
To truly live.
