BACKGROUND:

Nicholas came from a very traditional military family. He was born in the US but traveled all over with his father who was in the Air Force (father referred to him as “squid” when he joined the Navy). During high school he developed a love for the arts and wanted to pursue drama or painting. But pressure from his father to join the armed services eventually won him over, yet not without totally crushing his artistic flair. From the very beginning he started to apply the general rules of aesthetics and beauty to strategy and logistics. At the Academy it was seen as somewhat of a competition amongst his classmates as to who could beat the simulations he would design. His success rate: 93%. During this time he married a girl named Margaret Campbell. Their marriage was relatively happy and they had one child, a daughter named Morgan with whom Nicholas has a very strong relationship. After the Gulf War, Nicholas and Margaret had a falling out and filed for divorce. He won custody of Morgan and she’s happily traveled with her father ever since. Nicholas enjoyed the happy years of retirement, focusing more on his love for his art, and his daughter’s education. When the war against Macronesia broke out in the ‘30s. A few of his old friends who had been at the Academy with him (the ones who could not divine his scenarios) and were now in top positions in the Navy requested him to come back into service. He gladly accepted.
