Saboteur Part 4 Fiona sighed and sadly looked at John Scaros. Her head was killing her and a sharp pain shot up her right side. She wasn't one to complain, so she kept slient. She glanced at Becky. "How do you feel?" Becky looked up at Fiona with tears in her eyes. "I can't believe he tried to save me," she said softly. She looked over at John and continued, "If there's any way I could thank him..." "I tired to move you, but I couldn't." Fiona said softly ."I'm sorry." "I don't blame you..." "Rest up." Fiona said with a brief smile. Her vision dimmed slightly and she distantly wondered why. Her eye lids closed and her head lolled to the side. Becky just curled up against her pillow and quietly cried herself to sleep. "John....why?"
Dr. Brianna Garret sat in her finally cleaned office, feeling better from that she began to pull the files on her new medical assistant. "If you aren't going to tell me anything, captain, I'll find out myself," she muttered. She scanned down the page stopping to read the medical history. Injuries received to his right ear. Possible bug bites. Scars are there but don't interfere with his hearing. He's a psychological mess. Nightmares are severe. Has a light case of claustrophobia that he takes medication for. We're not sure beyond this. He will not open up. It is suspected from comments made by their Uncle (Major Gregg Michaels) that child abuse has taken place. He is extremely depressed. He has suicidal tendencies. He was released from his fourth stay at the Psychiatric Unit at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, in January (June 2033 to January 2034). His three other stays were during the following times: July 2025 to August 2025; January 2027 to January 2028; October 2031 to July 2032. Immunizations up to date. Currently on Wellbutrin for depression. "Hmmmm," she muttered again. "I think the captain has some explaining to do." "Dr. Garret?" one of her medical staff stuck his head in the door. "Yes?" she looked up. "Lieutenant Commander Rushton's asking for you," he said. She stood up quickly. I'll finish you later, she thought to the papers. "I'll be right there," she told her staff member. "Dr. Garret?" one of her medical staff stuck his head in the door. "Yes?" she looked up. "Lieutenant Commander Rushton's asking for you," he said. She stood up quickly. I'll finish you later, she thought to the papers. "I'll be right there," she told her staff member. Becky sat up and wrapped her arms around her knees as Brianna walked in. "I don 't know what's wrong with me...." Becky whispered. Looking up at the doctor she said, "I don't care what you say, Doc, it's my fault he's like that!" She nodded towards John as she continued, "He's like that because he was saving MY life and...." Her voice trailed off as she hunched up and cried. "It'll be okay," Dr. Garret said quietly, rubbing Becky's back. "It's not your fault, he'll be fine." "I know," Becky said tearfully. "It's just so hard..." She wiped her eyes and tucked her hair behind one ear. "How bad was I hurt?" she asked, changing the subject. "Cuts, bruises, some permant damage to your lungs from the smoke," Dr. Garrett spoke truthfully hoping it would make her feel better that she was hurt to, but remembering to leave out the internal bleeding they had needed to fix, until later, she probably wouldn't be able to handle that. "Ouch..." was all Becky could say. Then returning to the previous subject she said softly, "Could you let me know when the Lieutenant wakes up?" Brianna smiled. "Most defintely." "Thank you..." Becky said with a small smile. "No problem, now you get some rest, I'll be in my office if you need me, alright?" Dr. Garret left to her office.
A little while after the emergency, Jordan was officially on-duty for the first time on this boat. He got up and quickly did his routine, which consisted of a shower, brushing his teeth, and taking his medication (for both his claustrophobia and his depression). He quickly got into uniform and down to med bay. As he was walking in, he decided to go check on the people who were injured. He was walking by one of the females, she sat up quickly. Her hand flew to a scar on her neck and she looked like she maybe was going to start to cry. Jordan immediately turned to her. He laid a hand on her arm. Fiona sat up with a horrified gasp and her hand flew to the harsh scar on her neck. Tears immediatly pricked at her eyes and she tried to blink them away. She shook her head as if trying to shake away a memory when she realized she was being watched. Glancing up she met the person's eyes. "Are you alright?" "Yeah." Fiona replied quickly blinking the tears away. "It's okay, you can tell me. I know what bad dreams are like. I have a few demons that haunt me too." "Thank you, but I'm fine." Fiona said, fighting to keep a calm tone. "That's okay. We can talk about other things instead if you want." "My name is Jordan." Jordan smiled kindly. "Nice to meet you." Fiona said with a breif smile which quickly faded. "Nice to meet you too," Jordan kept his voice a little low, nice and calm. It tended to sooth nerves. "What's your job on here?" "Oh, I'm in security. How about you?" "I'm the Nurse Practioner. It's my first boat tour." "That's good," Fiona shifted uncomfortably. She glanced over at Becky who was speaking with the doctor. "Who else have you met?" "Just Dr Garrett. I already knew the head of cummunications before the tour. He's my twin brother." "Y-You have a twin?" Fiona stammered. "Yeah, I have a twin. Why do you look surprised?" Jordan eyed her curiously. "I had a twin too." "You did?" Jordan kind of smiled. "You're the firrst person I met who had one too." Jordan looked around to see everyone was busy. "Hey, maybe later when I go on break, I can eat with you?" Fiona blinked surprise at the forwardness of the question. "Sure, that would be great." She cringed suddenly. Jordan noticed her cringe. "Are you alright?" "Sorry, I'm a bit sore." "That's okay. You have every right to be sore," Jordan chuckled lightly. "Anyway, everything else alright? Do you remember much of the incident?" "Oh, well... I guess... I'm not really sure... I remember an explosion... and I tried to move Becky... but I couldn't," The memories seemed to be getting to her. "Would you like for me to sit with you a bit?" "Thank you." Fiona said with a slight smile that made the distant look in her eyes fade a bit. "I'd like that very much." Jordan grabbed a nearby chair, pulled it beside the bed, and sat. If Dr. Garrett got mad at him, he would just work extra time at the end of his shift. Anything to keep away from sleep and his own nightmares. "So, where are you from Fiona?" Jordan asked in an attempt to make light conversation. "Montana." She smiled slightly. "That sounds like a nice place," he smiled. "Its very pretty." She smiled. "Where are you from?" "Minneapolis, Minnesota." He stopped abruptly. He didn't really want to get into his past life. "I've never been there, it sounds nice though." "Yeah, it was nice," he lied. "I loved the cold. Winter is my favorite season." That last part really wasn't a lie. He really did like winter. He smiled brightly at her to hide his discomfort of the topic shift and tried to move it back to Fiona. "So, what was your family like?" He smiled. "My family?" She shrugged. "I lived my with mom and dad and I'm the youngest of a whole mess of children. Plus I'm the only girl. What about you, do you have any other siblings other than your twin?" "No, just Joel. It was Joel, me, my mom, and my dad. I also have an Uncle in the Air Force." "Oh." Fiona shifted uncomfortably. Her hand went to her head and she winced again. Jordan looked at her head worriedly. "Are you okay?" "I'm not sure, I think I'm all right." Jordan looked over Fiona's face carefully. He pulled out his pen light from his pocket. He spoke to Fiona in a soothing voice, "I'm going to check something out. I want you to follow this light with our eyes. Not your head, just your eyes." "Yeah, I can do that," she replied, her head throbbing as she spoke. He watched her eyes as he spoke, "That must have been interesting being the only girl with a whole mess of boys. Did you get into a lot of trouble?" "Me, never. I was a good girl... well most of hte time. As you can imagine, brining a boy home to study or whatever was kinda out of the question." She tried not to flinch as the light began to bother her eyes. Jordan chuckled and smiled. He noted that her left pupil was a little slower than her right and the pupils weren't getting that small, like they should. "Can you hold on a minute? I'm going to grab you two ibuprofen and see if that'll help your head." "Thank you." Fiona replied. Jordan smiled and then went and grabbed two ibuprofen. He also grabbed a small plastic cup and put some water in it. He came back and handed Fiona the items. "What about you and your brother, did you get in lots of trouble as kids?" "Joel and I were pretty bad kids growing up," he answered without looking her in the eyes. "We were punished a lot. What are you parents like?" Jordan changed the subject with a smile. "They were parents." Fiona replied. "My dad was in the military and mom was a housewife." She shrugged. "I sorta stayed away from them as much as possible." "I couldn't ever get away from mine," Jordan mumbled. "But I guess trying to stay away from them is part of being a child?" "I guess so." Fiona shrugged and blinked rapidly suddenly. Are you alright?" "F-fine." Jordan could tell she wasn't fine. "No, you're not," Jordan said, unneccessarily. He notice her struggle to keep her eyes open then final losing the struggle and closing them. "Damn," Jordan muttered before grabbing the medical person nearest. "Prep the surgery room, she's got residual trauma. Slow bleed." Jordan referred to a subdural bleed/hematoma. "We've gotta operate now or it's good bye Fiona." When all the medical person do was stare dumbly up at him, he yelled. "Now, damit!" They nodded and everything was a rush. Hours later, Jordan was cleaning himself up. Fiona was wheeled back to her place by Becky's side. She was still out from the anthesia. He started to walk up to check on Fiona and Becky, when he noticed the medical person that had prepped the surgery room run up to Dr. Garrett. She listened to the medical person then turned angry eyes on Jordan. He sighed as he walked over to between Becky's and Fiona's beds. He noticed Becky eye him curiously. He debated whether or not to check on her to delay Dr. Garrett, but decided against it. No use bringing innocents into it. He turned to Fiona's monitors to check if things were steady and smooth on there. He turned to find Dr. Garrett right behind him. "Hi," he tried timidly. "You, in my office now," Dr. Garrett said crossly. She couldn't believe this was happening, never actually worked with the guy once and he was already getting into trouble. She thought the captain was going to hear about it before. He didn't know the world of hurt she was going to give him now for withhold information. The reached the office, she let him in first shutting the door before she started her rampage. "WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING? Don't you know that everything that goes on in this place is to go by me first? I don't care what it is, who you THINK you are or anything! This is MY medbay, MY medical staff and MY responsiblity. What if you had diagnosed her wrong? Or worse yet, did the procedure incorrectly? That's MY ass on the line not yours and I didn't even know what you were doing! You better have a pretty damn good explaination because believe me this will NOT go unpunished." Dr. Garrett glared at the boy who was supposed to be her right hand man, she knew she didn't get along with people very well sometimes but this was just ridiculous. "I'm waiting for your reasons and they better be some pretty damn good ones." She sat in her chair and waited. Jordan didn't look at her as she yelled. A doctor along the array of his many had suggested not to look at people when they yelled at him. It would hurt worse. The doctor had been wrong. When she told him he had to have damn good reasons, he slowly looked up and saw how mad she really was. He looked down and mumbled, "She could have died." "And please tell me who is to decide that? Certainly not you, you aren't even a doctor you are a NURSE you aren't supposed to handle this sort of thing, you are to assist me in my surgeries not do them for me." He looked up and tried to will courage into his body. "She could have died. It's happened before to a patient of mine. I didn't want it to happen again." "And where was this at?" "It was at the Mayo Clinic. I waited for a doctor's permission and it didn't come for a few hours. The guy died." "I handle everything here case by case. You should have brought it to my attention. What happened at your old clinic is no excuse." Jordan got up, mumbling angerily, "Doctor's are all the same." "SIT DOWN!" Brianna stood up. "I did NOT give you permission to leave and this conversation is FAR from over. Now have a seat Mr. Micheals." Jordan stood and looked expectantly at her. "SIT!" His butt hit the seat. "Now I don't know who you think you are, but this ends here and now. Your past record doesn't impress me in the least. I would think that someone in your position would acutally care about doing the job RIGHT. Now, on the flip side I will give you a break on the fact that you were looking out for the welfare of your patient. But may I remind you that she is MY patient above all. That means everything goes through me." Dr. Garrett sighed and shook her head, unsure of what to do. "Do you understand that what you did was wrong and not even close to SOP?" Jordan felt like a complete idiot. At the moment, what he did seemed right, but now he felt like a moron. He, of all people, should have known better. He looked at his feet. "Yes, Ma'am. I understand." Jordan closed his eyes tightily and shook his head quickly to shake the thought out of his mind. The words brought back a memory he didn't want to think about. He had to peek up at Dr. Garrett to make sure Dr. Garrett was Dr. Garrett. Dr. Garrett stopped short, something was wrong with him. She began to feel bad a little for yelling at him, sure he needed to be punished but... "Are you alright?" "Fine, Ma'am. Just fine." He looked back at his feet. Brianna looked at him disbelievingly, and then continued on. "I'm putting you on a week's suspension on this. Hopefully after a week you'll change your tune, and after that we'll see if you need to be punished further." He could tell from her momentary silence she didn't believe him. When she spoke of the punishment, he looked back up, but had yet to meet her directly in the eyes. "Fine," he bit out. "Can I go now?" She nodded. "I'll talk to the Captain about this later." Damn, Jordan thought. She was going to the captain about this. What a great way to start out his job here. He thought he was good enough for this position. Maybe he wasn't? He shook his head at himself. "Okay," he mumbled as he got up and walked to the door. He stopped and looked back at Dr. Garrett. "Thanks for not kicking me off the boat yet." Brianna watched Jordan shut the door and sunk back into her chair. It was pretty evident the kid had major problems. How in the WORLD he had ended up on a UEO ship was beyond her. She sighed, "It's going to be a long tour." She took out her paper and pen and started: Dear Captain Fitzgerald... Boy was he going to hear about this. More than anyone knew..... |
