BACKGROUND:
Born and raised in Athens she was not a Greek citizen. Both of her parents were archeologists at a site just outside of the city. It wasn't until high school that she actually moved to the United States on a permanent basis. Her parents sent her to the states to a boarding school. After that she headed off to medical school and then her residency. After her residency she joined the Virology staff at the University of Pennsylvania. Through a friend she got wind of a position on a Naval ship and as she was looking to move on she decided to give it a shot.
