Ba-Da-Bing, It's Done....           07.16.01 (2:02pm)-Loozer
Well, by the time you're reading this, it'll be way after 2:02, hell, it may be past July 16th, because I just started working on it at 2:02. But that's a good thing, because by the time you read this the ballot for the 2nd Annual Loozer Awards will be up and running. Not only that, you'll notice a couple new fancy schmancy techniques thrown into the ever evolving Cafe.
As you will notice, a little lower down there is a pic with a caption. This nifty little contraption will now be used and played out on the Cafe. Ok, so we won't use it THAT much, but it's a quick and simple way to get you from Point A to Point B. In this case, you can click that to automatically be taken to a copy of the ballot to fill out. How simple is that?

Get Your Ballot Here!

So, if you haven't figured it out yet, the Ballot is out. This year, we have many returning categories, with a few new categories to give things a bit of a twist. The voting system is the same as last year. You pick one winner (or loser, not to be confused with Loozer) from each category, and send it. The votes will be tallied, and sometime in late August, or in early September the Awards ceremony will happen. Once again, the Award ceremony will be a live thing, like it was last year, with a winner announced every 15 minutes, although it'll be a lot cooler. More on that at a later time though.
New to the voting this year, is whoever has the most winning votes will receive a certain prize. By winning votes, I mean that he/she voted for the most people that win. So if you still don't get it, say there's 10 categories, and 5 of the people he/she picked on her ballot end up winning, well, if 5 is the most anyone ended up with right, then they'd be the winner. It's confusing, but if you have any questions on it, feel free to email me. Well, that's it for now. Enjoy the ballot, and uh, be sure to pick the biggest Loser. The people that win these awards should feel embarassed. It's not really the Loozer awards, because Loozer's are cool, it's the Loser Awards. So have fun....peace out ma' cub scouts.....

Are The English Having Fun Today?       07.04.01 (12:46am)-Loozer
Well, the original title for tonight's post was going to be "Where Art Thou Romeo LOOZER!" (crowd goes crazy!), but then I looked at the time and realized it was Independence Day. So I had to put the reference. I wonder if the good ol' folk over there in England ponder what they could have done to remain the big brother of this crappy country.
Speaking of big brother, whoa, when I found out they were doing a Big Brother 2, I nearly shit my pants. I mean, damn. I could have sworn that was the only show that ever did worse than the XFL in terms of ratings....
So going back to the original title for the post, it was just in reference to the fact that I haven't updated in almost two weeks. Needless to say, I still haven't gotten the ballot set for the 2nd Annual Loozer Awards, but I have decided that's what they'll be called. A serious name, or a cheap trick, on Loozer's part, to save time? You decide.
Well, now that I've gotten more situated, finishing tests for school, and turning in apps to various stores, to get out of the craphole pet store I'm in now, I can now relax a bit more. So, I make it a promise to all of you die hard Loozer fans out there, that the ballot will be out in the next week. If it's not, then order a pizza and give me another week or two.
Seriously though, it should be out tomorrow, or Friday at the latest. You can bet yo' bottom dollar on that bucko. Peace out ma' cub scouts......

Oh, and one last thing. I recently threw an extra tad of coding in part of this site, so now within the next few days or weeks, the Loozer Cafe will be accessible through popular search engines, such as Yahoo! and Alta Vista. So, now that loozercafe.com is now defunct, and you may have a problem remembering this address (https://www.angelfire.com/ut/TheLoozerCafe) you can either bookmark it, and send the link to all your friends, or just tell all your friends to go to Yahoo! and type in 'loozer cafe' and they should find it right there. 'Tis all. Payce yo'.

Tazz Is a Funny Funny Guy....          06.21.01 (11:14pm)-Loozer
I recently finished watching the series premiere of Tough Enough. For those who don't know what it is...well, then you probably wouldn't care. So I won't explain. All I have to say about it is....damn. The way Tazz yelled at some of the people on the show were both funny and frightening at the same time. I know it's all in character, because deep down we know he was probably a spoiled brat growing up somewhere in Connecticut, but he has to keep that tough image so the people on the show don't think they're on the easy road to fame.
Anyway, when I first heard about it, I thought the show was really stupid, but now that I actually watched it, it seems like something I'll keep watching. As far as winners go, I'd like to see Paulina take the woman's position, and either Gary (since he thought he lost, and went home, but then when one guy backed out, Gary was back in) or Chris (I wonder why.... :P) to win the male slot. Moving on.
I finished making my duct tape wallet today. It's quite cool, I'll put up pics of it, and isntructions on how to make your own up sometime later. I'm still working on the ballot, and it should be up tomorrow, now that I'm officially done with school, and I do pretty much nothing during the daytime hours.
Before I leave you, I'd like to recommend this site. Seriously check it out, if it doesn't interest you, it'll at least make you laugh. Have fun, and peace out ma' cub scouts......

I'm Tiger Woods Dammit.....          06.17.01 (10:18pm)-Loozer
No, I didn't mean this as a joke, me being Loozer, and Tiger being among the losers today at the U.S. Open. I just combined the classing "I AM...Tiger Woods" commercial, with a classic SNL skit, involving Eddie Murphy dressed as Gumby. But ANYWAY....
Today, I decided to just write about golf. I started playing golf a couple months ago now. For a while, I'd been looking for some sort of sport you can always work on by yourself, and more importantly, one that does not involve a team? Why? Because there's just nobody you can blame for shooting a bad round of golf. You can blame Iverson for sucking the big one during the Finals, but you can't blame anyone for why Tiger Woods shot a +3, finishing up the Open.
For those who don't watch golf, (SIDENOTE: me, a few months ago), it all came down to the final hole today. Actually, the last few holes. In order to make things easy, Guy #1 had the lead, then 3-putted the last hole to drop fro -5 to -4. Guy #2 was at -5 and Guy #3 was at -4 at the 17th hole. Guy #3 made a birdie and went to -5. So #2 and #3 were tied going into the 18th hole. Guy #3 played bad, and ended up at -3. Guy #2 needed to two-putt a 5 foot putt to win the Open. Putt one...miss. The couple footer for putt two....he missed. Putt three he made, but that dropped him to -4, and now he'll be in a playoff with Guy #1 tomorrow.
Now that can be pretty confusing. The point is, though, that it all came down to this last hole. And these two guys missed some simple putts. Why? Surely not because they suck, but the pressure was on, they new that they were deciding the outcome of the U.S. Open in the couple seconds that it takes to swing a club. No matter how far you drive the ball off the tee, or how accurate you can be with your irons, or how straight you can putt, a large part of the game is still mental. And that's why I like it so much.

In case anyone's wondering, I'm still working on the ballot for the 2nd Annual Loozer Awards. It should be out sometime this week, depending on how well I think, and how much time I put towards it, as I cram for my final test of the year. Tis all, peace out ma' cub scouts.....

COMING OUT OF THE DARK.....         06.13.01 (7:24pm)-Loozer
If you were wondering what the hell that title meant, I have no clue, I just had this old Gloria Estefan song pop into my head when I decided to finally put up a post after being absent for nearly a month. That song ended as soon as I started playing Lil Romeo, just because he makes me laugh.
I have no idea what to do with this site. I got rid of the Arcade for now, I got rid of a lot of stuff, and other ideas I had, I cancelled, because they'd take way too much work, and in the end, they'd only amount to a piece of what other sites focus fully on. If that made now sense, put it this way. Typing up tons of HTML about video game reviews and codes is fine, although time consuming, but at the thought of those only being needed by a mere .083% of Cafe visitors (I've done extensive surveys) it's just not worth the time. So this is my plea to everyone, email me as soon as you read this, with what you'd like to see more of on the Cafe, or what you want the Cafe to focus on. There's a link at the top by the "Home" and "Affiliates" link, titled "Contact", click that to email me. Or click "Loozer" which is right after the date on all posts. I'll probably put another link at the end of this post to email me, just so you can't say you didn't see the links. ANYWAY.....
I have two last things. One good, one bad. Let's start with the bad. loozercafe.com is no more. Those sons a bitches at NameZero.com decided that it's now time to charge for their services. I say no. You can too. I encourage everyone here to visit this page on NameZero and sending all your comments. Even if you don't have a site using their services, still bitch to them about their crappy service, and whatever. Use your imagination. So that brings me to this point: no more loozercafe.com, so I need the help of all of you out there to send the angelfire link, www.angelfire.com/ut/TheLoozerCafe to everyone you know, because I can no longer tell people to just "visit loozercafe.com". So hopefully everyone out there reading this can help me out on this.
The somewhat good news, is that based on the success last year, it is now time for Loozer Awards 2. Sorry I don't have a catchy spiffy name yet, but I'll work on it. The ballot shall be up within the next few days, featuring some of the same categories as last year, but plenty of new ones as well. That's all for tonight.
Here's yet another link to email me, click anywhere on this sentence, seriously, anywhere.

Y'Know, I Got Ta' Thinkin'....       05.15.01 (11:29pm)-Loozer
I was talking with fellow loozer alumni, Ace Davis, the other day, when looking back at old posts, how things can suddenly change. I read over the post in which I declared I was putting a video game into development.
     Those were the days.
I had nothing on my mind except getting through with school, and then going on to make video games. What better life is there than that? Just sitting around, making some kick ass games, that so many people would love playing. But then things changed. Since then, I've had two things on my mind, about future careers. Are either one of those making games? Nope.
I've always watched COPS, FBI Files, Forensic Files, etc. All those crime related shows. And in the past couple months, after reading more books in that related area, watching more court cases on tv, and watching even more of the aforementioned shows, some sort of criminal investigative line of work was what I was aiming at. Be it a criminal psychologist, or a homicide detective, or anything in between, that's what I wanted to do. I was set on that. I decided I would be a detective, and in my spare time program simple games to let people download online. Nothing in the world could change my mind. I was going to be a detective, or something related.
Nope. I never mentioned choice #2, but it was director/filmmaker. This has now moved towards the front, neck and neck with the detective job. In health class earlier this year, everyone had to go around and say some of their goals. Amidst some of the more comical goals of mine, was the 'be known by many people' wish. I can't really explain why that's something I want to accomplish. I was watching the Rosie O'Donnel show today (insert a whole list of jokes here), and in the beginning (as I'm sure many of you know) she does her little monologue or whatnot. So anyway, she mentioned her private nurse, who was in the audience, and then the camera got a shot of her, she just kind of put up her hand, but didn't really care much to be on tv. And that got me to thinking about just living a simple life, being appreciated by the everyday people around you, and just them. Being known as a local hero, not a national icon. I have nothing against that, but something makes me want to be known, and leave a bigger mark on things.
This nurse had a chance to get up and dance and wave, and make some sort of a lasting impression on people, but instead just kind of covered her face, by putting her hands up. BUT THERE'S JUST SOMETHING IN ME THAT WANTS MORE. The biggest fear I have in life, however 'cheesy'it may be, is for the day I move on to that 'better place' that nobody outside my family and friends will care. Family and friends make up only the small amount of people I wish to have some sort of impact on in my life. I want to be able to put some sort of lasting impression on peopel that I may never meet, and the means for doing that would be my movies/films. So when the day rolls around when ol' Loozer kicks the bucket, flippin' through the obituaries, I hope that a decent percentage of people will see my name, and just kind of think to themselves for a minute about who I was, possibly saying "Damn, he was a great guy." quietly to themselves. I may dwell more on this later, but I think I've done enough for now.In closing, let me just officially state that work on my yet to be titled film is now officially started. More info as it is available.

Fellow IcW alumni Remarkable Rod has been putting together his very own webpage. Through the efforts of Loozer himself, we are wishing to make his site into one of our greatest affiliates ever. Over the next few weeks, hopefully we'll be able to see his page evolve from the basic beginnger html to the dynamic html/flash type stuff we expect from his ass! Just kidding...right?. Anyway, here's the link to his site, Remarkable Rod's site....peace out ma cub scouts.....

Oh Man, Not Again......             05.12.01 (11:33am)-Loozer
A lot of you probably think that above title means that I'm actually updating again, but I'm not. Sort of. You see, I think it's time to renovate the Cafe again. But don't get worried and go crap your pants, because will most likely keep updating throughout the renovations. Now some answers to FAQ's about the renovations/
But dude, I love this layout.
     Yeah, me too.
Does this mean it'll look different?
     Um, yeah.
Ok, enough of those. Now, I haven't really found a great layout yet and whatnot, but I'll be on the lookout. Once I find them, I'll probably hold a poll on the site, and all of you out there can pick which new layout you like the most. OR, as will most likely happen, I'll keep this here layout, but touch touch it up a bit. You'll see. Peace out ma' cub scouts.

Look Who's Back Jack......           05.11.01 (12:25am) -Loozer
Well, that's right. I'm back, and better than ever. I bet everyone's glad, that after a month and a half, I'm back to dish out my opinions by the bucket loads. Actually, today, on this huge comeback, I'd like to show you all an article from the recent issue of OPM, written by John Scalzi. Now, I know the whole copyright schpiel and all, but hopefully, as I will now say, I DID NOT WRITE THIS ARTICLE, AND I AM NOT PRINTING IT AS A MEANS TO MAKE MONEY. JOHN SCALZI IS THE ORIGINAL WRITER, PLEASE GO BUY THEIR MAGAZINE. Okey dokey, now here's the article, in it's entirety, let's hope they don't get mad...

************************************************

KIDS, NOT ENEMIES      by john scalzi
When I was in high school, I wrote a story about killing off every single one of my teachers.
And we're not just talking about blowing them all up in one big explosion (although, as a matter of narrative convenience, that was how most of them went). Particular teachers were singled out for deaths consistent with their personalities. The earthy-crunchy teacher was found with leaves and twigs in every orifice. The history teacher who hated our nation's 15th president was discovered with "Buchanan" carved into her forehead. A geometry teacher was hoisted on her own protractor. Everyone knew I was writing the story, including the teachers. Every once in a while one would come up and ask if I had killed him off yet. They seemed to be excited to find out how I whacked them. It was fun for everybody.
If I wrote the same story as a teenager today, I'd probably be expelled from most schools in the country. You couldn't get away with that story anymore, not since Columbine, not since Santana High School. People would see that sort of story as a danger. Anyone who'd write that is a threat. The assumption now seems to be that teenagers are always on the verge of exploding, and that the slightest sign of violent thought -in a story they've written or read, in a song they listen to, in a video game they play- is indicative of a disorder that could one day cause the kid to snap in the worst way. Teens, by their rebellious and messed-up nature, are now seen as a permanent potential enemy, an unlit stick of TNT.
I quite obviously never acted out on my ideas in that story -indeed, I graduated with many friends in the faculty, the teacher I "killed" with the leaves and twigs being one whom I respected and admired the most. And now I make part of my living helping parents make responsible decisions about the video games they bring into their homes. I didn't grow up to become an enemy of the state; I never was one to begin with. Neither is almost every kid who plays violent games, watches violent movies, or writes black little stories in school.
I am clearly for parents taking an active role in what their children watch, play and hear. I'm for intelligent, thoughtful ways to make our schools safe places for our children. I'm for making sure those kids who do need help get it before they hurt themselves or others. But all of these things can be done without first assuming that our kids are the enemy. Kids know how we feel about them. The last thing we need is an entire generation believing they're distrusted and feared. Imagine what sort of adults they might grow up to be.

************************************************

Ok, that's it. Think about it. If it didn't mean anything to me, I obviously wouldn't have printed it. Also, you can check out that guy's website, at www.gamedad.com where he has info for parents about gaming. Have fun. I'll be back later....peace out ma' cub scouts....
